Admission Process at Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta

I have a very decent experience at this college. Teachers are friendly. I chose this institute because I came to know that this college is good. It is also accredited by NAAC (A+). So, I thought it would be good for me. It also solidified my base in sports, which I personally liked very much. Apart from many other institutes that I personally know, CCP offers more freedom and does not have a strict particular dress code. Sports are also given a great importance.

I chose B.Sc Physics because I very much love Space Physics. CCP is considered to be one of the modal centers of ISRO. We have a few programs and workshop visit to space research facilities. Because of this college, I and some of my friends could participate in a workshop by VSSC on World Space Week. For entry, one has to at least pass 12th examinations from a recognized board. Having better marks gives you an advantage as always. Admission process is simple but it takes some time due to the crowd at the time of admission because all the new comers have to meet the principal. Just come meet the Head of Department, then go to office, then meet principal, pay necessary fee then finish admission procedures. Class tests are conducted at least once a month. Internal exams are also conducted. Then semester exams come twice a year. Academically and extracurricular and by other good ways, the college prepares the students to become successful. One has to put efforts from his/her side too.

I had to pay Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 to be paid at the time for admission, as I got merit seat. Then you have to buy textbooks, notebooks, and all that stuff. Meritorious students get specific discounts. Various scholarships are available and eligible students can apply.

Faculty members are well trained and friendly. There is always a few of them at the faculty room whenever you go there during college time. We can depend upon the faculties as they have a strong background. Their education and their strong knowledge in the field of Science and friendliness make them dependable. Faculties are good at problem solving skills. Teacher to student ratio may vary across departments, due to the fact that some departments have more students compared to others. Generally, the ratio is good. Faculties are always friendly as we maintain our standards of discipline. They are always caring and adoring.

There is a placement cell. The exact placement rate is not known, but the cell puts more efforts to get more students into campus placement. Packages depend upon the course and your outcome.

Yes, the college has separate hostels for both boys and girls. Total rooms of both hostels are different. All the basic facilities are available plus some extracurricular activities and games.
Quality of mess food is good. Good rotation between food, snacks, and tea/black tea available.
All students have to maintain a minimum level of discipline. All should come to hostel before 7 PM. Mess bill is usually Rs. 3,500 per month, but it may lower depending on vacation times such as Onam and Christmas vacation. Additionally a sum of Rs. 2,500 has to be paid every 3 months as room rent. The rooms are available in triple sharing. My personal experience is good. I have not experienced any sort of ragging. Seniors are also friendly.

The college is located on top of a hill called Makkankunnu. The college has numerous blocks. A new, bigger block is soon to be inaugurated. Campus size is good big enough. A lot of classrooms have smart class systems and other technological facilities. Few theatres are also there. Library has a large collection of books, papers, magazines, etc. A lot of labs and language labs are there. A large auditorium is also there. There are many auditoriums as well. Canteen is also good with good food available. An infirmary is there in our college. Sports are valued very well in our college. It is also well supported and various sporting events are carried out. My favorite part is the college cafeteria and the sports infrastructure here. It always increases my academic experiences.

Overall, campus life is good with some joyous moments. The college is not so crowded, especially near the science block. The crowd is really friendly though. So it is not that tough to be here. Various kinds of clubs are there, both college run and student run. Student run clubs usually get support from college management. Lots of fests including food fest, film fest & arts fest, athletic meet, etc. are carried out. Inter department sports events also take place. My campus experience is always on a positive side.
