Gurucharan College Silchar: Affordable Education with Excellent Faculty

I took admission in 2024 and have completed my first semester. I’m currently in 2nd semester. The overall system of the college like its teaching system, canteen, rooms and everything are good. It a government college so affordable for middle class students like me and even provides free admission and teaching to those who are financially weak. The overall experience in the college during my first semester is superb, as if I made many friends even though I am introvert but also teaching staff.

I chose BSC in Statistics, as I wanted to be a Data Scientist. I might have chosen some other course but I like Computers and Math so I chose this course. If we talk about the eligibility criteria then everyone with a good score in previous examinations is eligible. The admission process is also quite easy. You have to sort some documents of your previous exams and scorecard or marksheet too, some ID proof, and migration certificates. If we talk about the frequency of the exams then yes, the unit tests are quite frequent. The finals come after every 6 month. If you chose a skill based course or like a course, which has real life applications like Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, etc. then yes, you will be well prepared for real-life challenges and you can solve all real life problems.

The fee of my chosen course in Gurucharan College is Rs. 7,500. In addition, all students have to register for their subject allocation for their final semester exams, which takes around Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000. In a for every Honors subject, the fee is Rs. 4,000 to Rs .5, 000. There is no discount in fee. Yeah there are scholarships available by the Assam Government for financially weak students and those are easy to avail for them.

The faculty members of Gurucharan College are good in teaching and got good skills. They are friendly too. If you had a problem, then they will help you to solve it. They will assist you in your preparation. The background of the faculty members is good. They all belong to a teaching background and so they have a good skill in teaching. As I mentioned the faculty members are skilled so they are good in problem solving. If we talk about the teacher to student ratio, there are more students but there are also several teachers available to assist you too. The college has 2 to 3 teachers in every subject. I have a good bonding with the teachers.

Well, I do not know about the placement cell. It might be present there. I'm a junior so I still have plenty of time left to explore. If we talk about the placement related activities then yeah every time there are programs to assist you to get a placement in the future.

Gurucharan College also offers residential facilities. It has PGs or you can say hostels. There is everything for a student. Well I live in rental PGs near the college so i don't stay hostel room. I have heard from my friends that the hostlers are friendly. The seniors help in finals. Yeah girl’s and boy’s hostels are both separate. If we talk about the food, then the canteen maintains a good hygiene just like we got in our homes. the hostels gate closes at sharp 9 PM.

The campus has trees and as the college is big so you can walk everywhere you like and sit as they have got bench and blocks near trees for sitting. The classrooms are also big. Every department has got like 2 to 4 rooms in each. The libraries are also stocked with every book; you need and is available for everyone. It has big auditorium for any functions. My favorite part in this college is the campus as it's big and I like to walk everywhere after my classes are finished.

My overall campus life is good. As I told, I have many friends. The college area sometimes is a bit crowdy in programs as main attention of students is during programs. If we talk about clubs then there is none. The college engages extra activities for students like sports and programs. It also hosts annual fresher’s fest. Hence, my overall experience is superb like everything is perfect here.
