TKMIT Kollam has Excellent Placements

My institute name is Thangal Kunju Musaliar Institute of Technology and it is situated in Karuvelil, Kollam. I have been here for about 4 years and my experience in this institute is wonderful. They provided us with a good infrastructure to study and also provided us with necessary things and support. The institute provided us with better placement opportunities and career guidance. They always promoted the institute’s achievement. Our institute got NAAC accreditation which provided boost to our institute's reputation and provided various advantages for students. I got admission into Thangal Kunju Musaliar Institute of Technology by means of KEAM entrance exam which provides path to students for getting admission in engineering and pharmacy courses. I put this institute and many highly reputed institute s in list of allocation. I got selected into this institute. I have found that every institute has its own dignity and specialty which provided a good path from the beginning of institute life.

I have chosen Computer Science and Engineering as my base course even though there were many other courses in engineering. I found interest in Computer Applications and mainly gaming sector which caught my interest. I also had support from my family and friends in taking this course since it had a vast job opportunities in the covid pandemic time. The allotment to institute was taken in terms of ranking system made by KEAM board. I had a good score in my 12th standard examination under CBSE. The admission process of institute was not too complicated since most of them were online. I took admission in hostel provided by the institute which made a big relief to me. There are 8 semesters and each of 6 month duration. The internal examinations are conducted out of 50 marks each and an average is taken. The other internal mark includes assignment submission and other things. The concepts taught here are very useful if they are used perfectly which includes about society, moral values and job related teaching.

As I was admitted into this institute in state merit quota I got its advantages like reduction in fees when compared to other management seats or NRI seats. The variance in fees is not much of an amount but still less than others. We have to an amount of Rs. 57,250 which includes tuition fees of Rs. 50,000, sports fee of Rs. 530, stationary fee of Rs. 650, student activity fund of Rs. 500, broadband fund of Rs. 1,200, career guidance and placement training fee of Rs.500, and University exam fee of Rs. 3,870 which sums up the total amount. This fee is given in each semester. Fee concession is given to general category or SC / ST category. Scholarships are given to the students based on their family annual income and other than that many other scholarships are also provided which boost the students. For example there is a scholarship amount of Rs. 25,000 which is given to student if he or she passes a year with no backlogs.

I chose Computer Science and Engineering as my course with which I have to learn different subjects related to this course which includes Java, Data Structures, Data Base, Software Testing, Distributed Computing, C Programming, and many other subjects which has core value in learning about the course. All the faculty members in our department are very friendly in nature and always supported us if we are in any sort of trouble or if we have any problem. They normally use both black board and use slide show for teaching purpose. Group discussion is also appreciated in our class. The faculties in our department have an experience of teaching and also understand the difficulty of the students if any. The teachers are mostly friendly in nature and are always open minded.

We got a placement cell unit in our campus which helps the students by providing the best recruitment drives with companies from India and also international placements. The international placements include Arab nations. The cell provides the students with information to each and every department. They promote the students to take part in the recruitment drives and getting placed. This helps both the institute and the students in further part of their life. The activities in recruitment drive include a pre placement talk made by the companies either online or offline with the students. The rounds of qualifying may be done according to the method or policies made by the companies. The salary packages are calculated per annum and it starts from 2.4 lakh to 6 or 10 lakh currently. In future the minimum amount may increase drastically and which may lead to good opportunities to the students. Personally I was very nervous in the sense it was my first time attending a drive. Thinking from my side it was my need to get placed so I tried and got placed in a company.

Yes, Thangal Kunju Musaliar Institute of Technology provides the students with hostel facilities. The girl’s hostel is situated near to another institute of this trust and men’s hostel is situated near to the campus. The Mens hostel is divided into two buildings, one for the first year students and other for the senior students to avoid conflict. The senior block has 3 floors each for each year starting from second year students. Each year is provided with about 12 rooms each in each block and each room contains 4 or 3 students each. They also provide study tables for keeping books and other stationary items in it. Toilet facility is also provided in hostel. The senior blocks have common bathrooms for each floor and first year rooms have attached bathrooms. The mess food is very hygienic and tasty. We all enjoy the food not like the mess food we see on social medias. This place has become a second home for us hostellers. The workers in mess are very friendly and they treat us as their own children. We have to leave the hostel in morning before 9 and return back at 4 in the evening after the class is over. We can come to hostel in the afternoon break to eat lunch.

The campus's academic blocks are divided into many blocks like first year has a separate block in which the senior students are not allowed to enter without any valid reason. The other blocks include departments in the institute like Computer Science Department, Biomedical Department, Civil Engineering Department, Food Technology Department, Electrical and Electronics Department, Mechanical Department and they newly added 2 more courses Artificial Intelligence Department and Machine Learning Department. Each classroom has a capacity of about 60-70 students. They provide us with library facility, lab facility for each department according to their needs for teaching. They provide us with seminar and conference halls in which many events take place or classes take place. An institute canteen with booking system is also available. The newly renovated ground is also available for the students. My favorite place in institute is the ground and seating facilities under the big trees near Electrical Department.

Talking about the overall campus life, it was a wonderful journey but we think it was short term since we didn’t want to leave the campus. We have a peaceful environment between the students and the faculty members. No there are not any particular clubs in our institute. Thangal Kunju Musaliar Institute of Technology provides us with Arts program in which students participate as competitors or as entertainers and enjoy themselves. It’s particularly a 2 day program and it takes place in our institute ground and other co curricular activities are conducted inside the auditorium or seminar halls. They also provide us 2 day sports program in which students participate according to years or department and the one with most points wins the overall trophy.
