KIT Kanpur Admission: JEE Mains, CUET, and Direct Admission

As the title suggests this institute is a decent option. I am saying so because of the few factors I feel that could have been better like Placements. It became an autonomous institute from 2024 so things might change in future beside this the teachers, infrastructure, and curriculum are all very good. Being autonomous, they reduced the curriculum and only kept useful subjects and topics which are a plus point and the fees are also affordable as compared to other private institutes.

The course I chose is B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, since there are upcoming opportunities in this field and also everyone else is running for computer science, so this was a good option. You can get admission here through JEE Mains, CUET, and Direct Admission. You are required to fill a form given by them with your personal details and verify your identity and pay a onetime registration fee of Rs. 1,000, and then there is some other paperwork that you have to sign and after paying at least 50% of your course fee you are good to go. The exams system is quite different since it is divided into three parts- 1. Formative Assessment (FA) of 60 marks further divided into 5 parts of 12 marks each as FA1, FA2, FA3, FA4, FA5; 2. Summative Assessment (SA) - 30 marks these are the final exams of that particular semester and 3. Attendance- 10 marks 75% compulsory. With the updated curriculum it prepares you for real life challenges.

The fee of my particular course B. Tech (Electronics and Communication Engineering) at KIT, Kanpur is Rs. 65,000 per year + Rs. 7,500 per year as exam fees. Other than that, you have to pay Rs. 1,000 as a one-time registration charge during your admission at the institute. There are many scholarships available for students mostly SC / ST, since the seats for other caste are very low and also have a large number of eligibility requirements.

The faculty at KIT, Kanpur who are teaching me, most of them have completed their Ph.D in their respective fields. Some are pass outs of AKTU and IITs as well. Our classrooms are equipped with projectors, so it depends on the topic they are teaching whether it requires a ppt or an explanation on the blackboard, so yes they use all kinds of methods (blackboards, PPTs, Group discussions, etc.) to teach in class. If a student has a query in a question they will ask other students to tell the answer and will correct them if needs to and if no they will tell everyone the answer. I don't know about the whole institute but in my course the students are just 17 so obviously the teachers are more as compared to the students. The teachers are friendly and approachable. We can text them whenever we want with our query and they will respond whenever they are free or sees the message.

There is a Placement and Training Cell at KIT, Kanpur whose key objectives are to build entrepreneurial culture among students, to act as intermediary between colleges and industry, to organize visits to industry and organize workshops and seminars. They will also train about Soft Skills, Aptitude, Technical Training, etc. The highest package claimed by KIT, Kanpur as per their website is 25 lakh.

Yes, the KIT, Kanpur offers residential facilities like hostel, mess, gym, playground, etc. There are 2 boy’s hostel- Swami Vivekananda Hostel- 140 boys and Sir C.V Raman hostel- 158 boys. Male faculties are also provided hostel to maintain decorum of the institute. There is only one girl’s hostel Mother Teresa girl’s hostel which can accommodate 138 girls. In girls hostel also female faculties are there to main the discipline. The mess provides 4 times breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. Hostel fees are around Rs. 70,000 including both hostel and mess. You can check the hostel rules and regulation at their website.

KIT, Kanpur is divided into 3 blocks- KIT (main building), KIHE, and KIHP. The campus is built in around 20 acres. It is located on main Highway in an industrial area making very accessible to students. There are many classrooms, lecture rooms, seminar halls, etc. well equipped with ACs and projectors. Library is also filled with books from different departments. There are many computer labs accessible to every student in need of a system. A canteen is also present in KIT, Kanpur which serves decent food. There are many options in sports both indoor and outdoor like cricket, football, basketball, chess, table tennis, carrom, etc.

Being a day scholar I don't have a much of a campus life and about the crowd its average. There are many clubs in the institute related to different sports, art, literature, music, dance, anti ragging, etc. I am not a part of these clubs at the moment but looking forward to get into in the future. The institute keeps organizing extracurricular activities frequently and encourages students to take part in it. Freshers, farewell and Egneious are organised by the institute and some other technical fest are also organized from time to time in KIT, Kanpur. The schedule is little hectic since the classes are from 9 AM to 5 PM with continuous classes and a 1 hour gap in between for lunch.
