Admission Process and Fee Structure at FISAT Ernakulam

My overall experience is good at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Other than academics institute life is pretty much basic. Fests are organised here very rarely. Small tech fests happen every month but big events are organised once a year. The institute is known for their EC and CS Faculty. The institute is located in Eranakulam which have an airport and railways nearby. The sports management is very strong in this institute. Every sports player is always encouraged by the faculties and management. There are good cricket and football fields which are maintained regularly.

I choose EC at as my major degree and my motive was my interest in hardware companies. The EC department of Federal Institute of Science and Technology is well known for their academic achievements. Students can get admission in this institute through 3 quotas that are Merit, Management and NRI. For merit seats rank of KEAM entrance exam is taken as criteria. For EC and CS 12000 and 8000 were last year cut off. Admission process is simple. The students along with their parents are required to come to institute for getting admission. There are 2 internal examinations and 1 end semester examination for each course. Exams are conducted as per the timetable given by KTU. The academics are pretty much hard which will of course prepare for your upcoming journey.

I have joined the institute through Management quota. I am currently paying Rs. 1,50,000 per year. That is Rs. 75,000 per semester. So total Rs. 6,00,000 for the completion of the course. For NRI quota students fee is Rs. 1,90,000 per year that is Rs. 95,000 per semester. For merit students who have taken admission through KEAM, fees are Rs. 75,000 per year. There is also special discount for reserved communities and EWS category students. Financial aid is also provided for some cases. There is a caution deposit of Rs. 10,000 and special fees of Rs. 24,000. There are also special facilities fees of Rs. 10,000. The Registration fees are just Rs. 100.

EC and CS faculty is good at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Most of the faculty members are having Ph.D or M.Tech in their respective fields. Most of them have completed their graduation from NITs or IITs. Teachers provide ppt after classes for better preparation. But the use of technology in classrooms is low. The use of laptops in classrooms is prohibited. Group discussions are conducted very occasionally. Faculty members are highly skilled and have a vast knowledge in their own specified roles. Especially core electronics faculty members are super skilled. Most of the faculty members are very friendly and approachable. The institute also follows strict policies about academics also.

Placement is pretty good at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. There is a strong placement cell which brings companies every year and they also provide placement training from 3rd year itself. Placement cell gives opportunities to all students who have good academics score and are skilled. IBM, TCS, INFOSYS, Cadence, Federal Bank, and Muthoot Bank are some of the companies that visit every year. The average package being offered is 5 LPA. The highest package was offered from Cadence which is a core company.

Federal Institute of Science and Technology offers residential facilities inside the campus for girls and boys. Boys have 2 hostels for both seniors and juniors separately. Rooms are pretty good. In a room there are 3 beds and 3 cupboards. Each room has a fan. Bathroom is common for rooms. There are no recreational activities in the hostel. Girls and boys have separate hostels. Mess food is pretty basic. Hygiene is good here and timings are pretty much strict. Hostel fees are Rs. 24,750 annually but there is a separate mess fee of Rs. 150 a day. Hostel has a curfew after 8.00 PM night.

Campus infrastructure is pretty much old fashioned. Every block is in the same building. Institute is divided into three blocks for MCA, B.Tech, and M.Tech separately. Campus size is pretty much small excluding cricket ground and other sports facilities. Federal Institute of Science and Technology is located in a remote area. The nearest city is 7 km away from the institute and the nearest town is 3 km away from the institute. Classrooms seating capacity is good. Library is pretty big but timing of library is not appropriate as library is not available after 6 PM and is closed on Sundays. Institute has a good number of labs and seminar halls. Auditorium is small. Sports management is pretty good at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Institute gives all kind of back support for all players. Canteen service is pretty average. Transport is also average as there are only few buses for town or city directly from the route of institute. My favorite spot is the cricket ground at the campus of Federal Institute of Science and Technology.

Overall campus life is good at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Most of my peers are well disciplined and have a goal oriented mindset. There are many clubs and international organisations like IEEE, ASME, etc. Sports have a huge role in campus as most of the students are also institute sports team members. Institute conducts only few number of fests in which most of them are tech fests. There is annual event called Bharatam which is conducted once a year in big scale. The institute is pretty much based on academics and less about campus life.
