Federal Institute of Science and Technology: Campus Life and Academics

Overall Rating
Federal Institute of Science and Technology is very good. The reason why I chose this institute is because of its well trained and highly qualified faculties and lab instructors. The syllabus is industry oriented and less of theory. The labs are of top quality with well maintained equipment. The institute also provides support for sports. There is also a gym and big cricket ground within the campus.
 

Academics Rating
The course which I selected is B.Tech in Electronics and Communication. The motive why I chose this department is because this department of this institute is considered one of the best in the state. The entry to this institute is through KEAM which is a state government exam conducted by the government of Kerala. The cutoff for this institute is quite decent.
For NRI admission the fee is Rs. 1,90,000 per year with a caution deposit of Rs. 1,50,000. For state merit quota students, the fee is Rs. 75,000 per year with a caution deposit of Rs. 10,000. And, for management quota it is Rs. 1,50,000 per year. There will be some additional charges as well.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty members of the department which I have chosen are from premiere institutions such as IITs and NITs. The method of teaching is PPTs; they provide pdf notes to the students for better preparations. The problem solving abilities of teachers is top notch. The teacher-student ratio is quite decent. The faculties are very supportive and they solve our doubts very well. All the faculties are well mannered and decent. The faculty teaches the students in a very practical manner.
 

Placement Rating
There is a placement cell in Federal Institute of Science and Technology. From the third year, placement training starts for the students. The companies which visited the institute are TCS, IBM, etc. The highest package was 17 LPA and average is 5 LPA.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostel facilities are available at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Each hostel room is shared by 3 students. The girls and boys hostels are separate. The mess food is of top quality. There are 4 hostel buildings in the institute, 2 for boys and 2 for girls.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There are 3 blocks in the campus. One is the south block which is the engineering block; second is north block that contains the CS department students and business school, and third is the Decennial block for administration. The campus size is of 40 acres. The classrooms have a seating capacity for 75 students. There are 2 mess and one canteen facility available in the campus.
 

Campus Rating
The overall institute life is quite good. The campus is not so crowded. There are many departmental clubs which we can participate in. Many professional bodies such as IEEE, ASME is there in the campus. Two main cultural events are organised there. One is Bharatam and another is Arangu. Bharatam is conducted twice a year and Arangu is conducted once a year. The institute is quite strict but overall it’s a good institute. Many sports activities are also promoted in the institute.

    My overall experience is good at Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Other than academics institute life is pretty much basic. Fests are organised here very rarely. Small tech fests happen every month but big events are organised once a year. The institute is known for their EC and CS Faculty.
