St Bede's College, Shimla: Fees, Faculty, and Facilities

My experience at St Bede's College, Shimla was challenging and fun at the same time. The shift from Rajasthan to Shimla was a dicey move but the college’s staff and Shimla’s residents made it easier to let me sink in with ease. Also the teachers at the college are approachable and the management is pretty transparent which made the adjusting easy to a new place. Overall it was a good decision that I took for myself.

I chose to enroll in the BA English Honors, which is a 3 years course and the college runs on yearly sessions. The eligibility for admission in the college is 55% marks in 12th class also the college runs a test and an interview before enrolling the student. The syllabus for the course is appropriate and prepares you well for future career in English Language and Literature. The college makes a student take 2 mandatory exams in a session to check your understanding. There used to be frequent group discussions and presentations done by the students. Overall on the part of academics the college serves pretty well.

Fee for filling the registration form was Rs. 500 and the tuition fee for each year was Rs. 18,000. The fee for end session exam form was Rs. 800.

Most of the teachers, teaching my course were graduated from same course and had done PhD. Teachers had vast knowledge about their specific subjects and they were pretty good at making their students comfortable with subject and made sure students understood well. Teachers were quite friendly and approachable from which students benefitted a lot.

The college offers hostel facility for the students coming from outside the state. The hostel has around 60 rooms divided into 3 floors for batches of each year and each floor has a common washroom. Mess facility serves food 4 times in a day and food is good. The hostel is pretty strict as it allows outings only on Sundays and makes sure the students go to the college every day. I personally made a lot of memories staying in the hostel even though it was strict but it felt good to be in discipline. The hostel staff was friendly and made it feel like a home.

The campus is not so big but it has every essential place that a college requires. Campus includes different departments for each course. It has places like basketball court, indoor badminton court, sports room, a gym, a canteen, and a medical room. St Bede's College, Shimla does not provide transportation facility. It has library, different labs, seminar halls, an auditorium, and a courtyard to sit & chill with your friends. My personal favorite was the basketball court.

Overall my life during the span of 3 years at St Bede's College, Shimla had lots of ups and downs but it all feels worth it now. I enjoyed and created memories at every corner of the campus and lived to the fullest. There are a lot of clubs and societies in which a student can be a part of. There are events organized by the college every week. College organizes a fest every year. Also, there are carnivals organized by the NCC cadets twice a year.
