Shyam Lal Evening College: Courses, Exams, and Faculty

Shyamlal College Evening is a good college. Rating it out of 10, I will give it 7. The college has a lot of greenery and its best if you're pursuing any professional course (CA, CMA, CS, and CFA). Attendance is not important as it just contains 11 marks out of 160. The seniors are helpful. Most of the students are from Delhi and neighboring states. South Indians can have problem coping up. In the end, it is a good college to choose if you want to enjoy college life and also want to pursue a professional course. This college is a north campus college according to Delhi University although it's not. But if you want to show off that you're in north campus then come to Shyamlal College Evening.

I have chosen B.Com course. For admission you must score 580/800 marks and above for general category. After that fill the DU form. There are 2 internal exams for each subject, a viva and a presentation. There are semester exams which take place in December-January And June. The academics are good. The most important thing is the exposure that you will get here.

Fee is much less in Shyam Lal College (Evening), New Delhi as compared to other colleges in DU. Rs.13,500 for first year and Rs. 1000 less the next.

Faculty is good but they sometimes arrive late in class. They teach well if you know Hindi and if you don't, then there is trouble for you. The professors of my course teach in Hindi and sometimes in English. Except few, teachers are good behavior wise. For doubts you can ask them, they will help.

The placement cell is now calling companies for placements and internships, so that's a good sign for the future but most of the students get off campus placement or prefer higher studies. But I am not sure, college will provide placement to all of the students.

There's no hostel facility. If you want accommodation, behind the college there are lot of PGs available at every price range.

The academic blocks are good and the campus size is big. Talking about infrastructure, from outside looks good but that's not the case in reality. Some of the classrooms are big but some are small and there is no auditorium, it is the biggest problem for the college. There are labs, Seminar halls, and library with well stocked books. The canteen is good but prices are on the higher side. Sports facilities for hockey, football, baseball, volleyball, kabaddi, cricket is available. Although we lose cricket matches every time. Nearest metro is about 600m away and there is a bus stop too. There is ATM in the college campus. College grounds are best. There is a water cooler. Toilets are not good though.

Overall campus life in the college is great until you are away from politics. The students are good and helpful. There are societies to take part and enjoy your college life. Most of the girls who are here, enjoy themselves a lot but then also there is a shortage of female students. Shyam Lal College (Evening), New Delhi is the best evening college even better than some of the regular colleges in DU in every field.
