B.Com (Hons.) from Banwarilal Bhalotia College Asansol

As you all might have heard, Banwarilal Bhalotia College, Asansol is one of the best regular colleges in the city and nearby places, in fact, a lot of my batch mates came all the way from Jharkhand and Durgapur just to graduate from our college. My experience is absolutely worth my time, we learn academics as well as get practical knowledge according to the new education policy. I will be honest; I took admission in this college because of their social media presence. Various clubs and departments of the college are almost always hosting a seminar, workshop, camp, and excursion. They simply put all that you need apart from the academics. It does not mean they are not focused on the academics but faculties and our principal sir know the significance of activities apart from the academics. I would recommend our college to all students, willing to pursue their studies in the Asansol city.

As you all know, I am pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Commerce (honors) at Banwarilal Bhalotia College, Asansol, which is a 4 years degree (3+1 year). That extra year is the sole reason or motive behind me choosing this degree. In short, that extra year provides us with a choice to pursue research, if we are able to maintain a minimum of 7.5 CGPA in the first three years or six semesters. You can also choose not to pursue research and collect your Bachelor's degree at the end of the third year. Entry requirements are fairly similar to other colleges, you need to score enough marks in your 12th boards or equivalent from any recognised boards to be shortlisted for the merit list. When I enrolled, 60% was enough. Admission process is comparatively smooth and in online mode mostly. Exams are conducted at least twice a semester; one internal exam in the mid and one end semester exam. Also, practical tests for practical subjects are conducted. Exams are all smooth and not stressful; it’s just like how it should be. Don't stress, be yourself and the exams will be fun. Because college exams has a syllabus and is certain, unlike real life challenges which are uncertain, the only similarity is you need to be yourself and it is all good.

For my course annual fee is less than Rs. 5,000 which includes donation for Vishwakarma Puja as well. There are some special fee concessions applicable for specific category students, though I’m not very sure about the exact details regarding the same. Government aid & scholarships like ‘Kanyashree’ and ‘Swami Vivekananda’ are available for students.

Well, the Commerce Department is blessed with amazing professors and faculties. I believe all five fingers cannot be same but almost all the faculty members are worth their positions. Our principal sir has also been a Commerce student and the professor who taught him also teaches us, which shows how relentlessly these faculties have been working with the subject and how much experience they hold. During classes/lectures, our professors also share the required insights from the outer world to help us understand a topic in an effective way. Not to mention, the faculty members hold huge titles like Dr., CA, and CS along with the vast experience they have in their respective fields. Teacher-student ratio is not that good in our department but it is not a problem because faculties are easily approachable and are more than happy, to help us get through all the doubts we have. As a conversationalist myself, I have a great bond with most of the faculty members in our department and I also share a bond with faculties of other departments as well. I am glad to be taught by such faculty.

I am not very sure about the placement cell, if there's any. But the way we are graduating, I believe there is not going to be any problem with the placements. I believe it is more of an individual thing than an academic thing.

From what I have heard, hostel offers you a great experience that too inside the college campus. There are two separate hostels for both boys and girls. Also, I have not yet heard a single hosteller sharing a bad experience at the hostel. I don’t know much about the facilities, hostel provides, as I am a day scholar.

Infrastructure is fairly good in our college, almost all the requirements are met beforehand. There are 5 to 6 academic blocks. An administrative building including principal chamber/office, central library, central computer lab, Hindi shift department and a few more significant chambers/offices. Science Building has various departments such as Department of Science, Department of Commerce, Statistics Department, Economics Department, Vivekananda seminar hall, and couple of Computer labs as well. Arts Building and BBA/BCA building are also there. There is another building providing space for various administrative offices and girls’ common room. Canteen, Playground, Volleyball Court, and a lot more things are present within the campus. There are various gardens planted by the Botany Department of our college, which provides Botany students with a practical understanding of the plants, this is just an example of how our college strives to provide best facilities to the college.

Campus life is good, I guess. As it is not too much happening but at the same time it is not at all boring. The college is not that crowded in summers, but it gets really crowded in winters, as students come to the playground after their classes and enjoy the sunlight with their peers. I like to play badminton in the sunshine during winters and it is an experience, I highly recommend all of you to have at least once in your lifetime. Our annual fest ‘Sanghati Utsav’ is very popular around the city. A lot of students from other colleges as well, gather in our campus ground to experience the breathtaking moments. None of the BB College’s students miss this fest. I truly love my time in the college. I strongly, suggest you all to join this college.
