Academics at GCETTS Serampore: Attendance, Exams, & Faculty

I am doing B.Tech from GCETTS Serampore. I got this college by WBJEE counseling. The faculty and infrastructure here are very good.

The course chosen by me is Computer Science Engineering. I enrolled in this course because I wanted to pursue career in Cyber Security in future. The eligibility criteria is having minimum 60% marks in class 12th and at least 6,000 to 6,500 rank in West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE). You have to visit the college at Serampore manually after you get seat allotment letter. Visit the office to get your documents verified and pay the admission fee in online mode. There are C1, C2, C3, and C4 exams for 25 marks. 5 marks are for attendance, and an end semester exam of 70 marks is conducted in each semester. Honestly, speaking the academics does not prepare you for the real life challenges; you have to do it by yourself.

You have to pay Rs. 8,500 at the time of admission. Fee for each semester is Rs. 8,500. Rs. 5,000 is given for the seat allotment at WBJEE before getting the allotment letter. It is refundable. You have to pay Rs. 400 for ‘Vishwakarma Puja’ for 4 years. Rs. 4,000 is paid for the fests for full course. Rs. 200 for College magazine. These all are mandatory for all students.

The faculty members at GCETTS Serampore are really well educated and very experienced. After 1st semester classes are not conducted regularly except for the Mathematics. Rest all is good.

There is a very good placement for Textile and Apparel Technology students; it’s almost above 90%. They get placed very easily. But for Computer Science, the placements are not so good. It is below average and not even 10 out of 60 students gets placed, which I think should be improved. Most of the students opt for off campus placements.

I am a day scholar so, I don't know much about the hostel facilities. There is no girls’ hostel, only boys’ hostel is there in the campus.

The GCETTS Serampore campus is really big and there are many buildings. There is a well stocked library. For CSE and IT departments, there are well equipped Computer labs. Chemistry lab’s condition is not that good and there are no equipment. Physics lab is quite old and should be renovated. There is a lecture room, where the 1st year classes are held. There are two language laboratories one old and one new.

Mt college life is really awesome. The College crowd is good; the seniors are very helpful except for the fresher’s day, where they take intro but in a friendly way. There is dancing, singing, coding, drama, etc. clubs. I am part of the coding club ‘Entropy’, which was made this year only. There are engagement activities like seminar, tech quiz, debate competition, etc. College fest is celebrated for 4 days. 1st day is reunion, 2nd day is for games, 3rd day is a fresher’s event, and 4th day is for farewell party. I am really enjoying my college life here.
