CULET Exam for Admissions in South Calcutta Law College

South Calcutta Law College under Calcutta University, is a specialized university focused on legal education and provides B.A.LLB, B.A.LL.B (Hons.), and LLM as the course of study. Though I am currently pursuing B.A.LL.B from the institute and the specialty of the institute is the freedom that it provides, you can with permission attend internship, participate in inter college debates and moot courts, even the moot-court society organizes debate and moot court events. The college is cozy and has spacious classrooms and air-conditioned common room.

Being a government-run college admission can only be done through an entrance exam conducted by the Calcutta University known as CULET. You have to rank well under 500-600 among 12000-15000 students as it is ranked 2 under Calcutta University and ranked 3 Law college in West Bengal. I chose it to pursue the legal profession. The admission process is simple after clearing the entrance exam you will be given your eligibility in the colleges under Calcutta University according to your ranking and preference. The frequency of exam is twice a year, the same being divided in two semesters, and for internal assessment you have to submit projects accordingly one for each subject.

The course fee is the standout factor here. Being a government college the fee of a 5-year course with all admission fee and semester fee is around Rs. 60,000, which if being compared to other colleges or universities is a fee per semester. Even scholarships are available to students provided by the state government to students with 75%+ in class 12 boards.

The faculty is exceptional being very helpful and can be approached by anyone. We can directly ask for help to a professor going to the staff room. They will always be ready to help you and even help with your assignment, projects, internships, and college events such as debates and moot courts. They also help in building connections and there are lot of them being recognized by national legal research cells and papers being cited by international peers.

The campus of South Calcutta Law College is just a building of 6 floors with a lift a common room, seminar hall, and a gym room. The library has collection of all necessary copies of bare acts and reference books and all are available for the whole year to be borrowed for 15 days which could again be renewed for the same period and there are lot of copies being kept thus there is no such scarcity where you would not find any particular reference books or bare act. The college has a seminar hall where college events take place.

The campus life is average. Music and dance practices take place during these inter-college events. The campus might be cozy though. It fits perfectly for a government college particularly with the fees it takes, and though it has all the facilities but there is no such thing special as in, the campus compared to private colleges.
