75% Attendance is Mendatory at Arya Vidyapeeth College Guwahati

Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati was not my first option, but I am glad I still got to pursue my course from here. It is good for scoring marks. Being autonomous the College has more perks than most others. Most department teachers are so good, and some make you feel at home. If you want to score marks and want lenient teachers, come here. It is under Guwahati University but being autonomous, teachers here prepare the question for our exams without having to rely on the University. This year's exams too, unlike other Colleges under GU, our College was not affected by sudden changes or was late in taking practical exams and overall in working.

I chose B.Sc in Anthropology. Those scoring 56.60% and above in HS exam can apply for admission here. There is an option to choose either B.Sc or B.A in my course, according to your relevance. Admission process is swifter than you would think. There are several class tests, one sessional and one end semester exam. Honestly in my discipline, they let us go on field trips, museum trips to fill the gap between classroom and real life learning. I believe it is so in each department which is another great thing about it.

For each semester we pay fee which is usually quite affordable. If you have a domicile in Assam along with a ration card or income certificate under 2 LPA, then admissions and fee is free. Do not pick private Colleges if money comes hard to your family. The College also attends to Scholarship applications and are quite fast in processing.

The teachers of Arya Vidyapeeth College Guwahati are very qualified in their own respective fields. Each teacher has completed one or more Masters and hold very recognizable distinctions. They teach well within their capability and are very involved in trying to get the students drop their phones and take up more interest in books. My department teachers are the kindest. Once I did not have cash online for my examination payment, and when I approached my teachers, they willingly helped without asking more. And for those whose attendance was below 75% the teachers asked a promise for improvement and allowed them to sit for the exam. Every department takes so much pride in every single achievement of their students. I cannot say more on how much respect and love I have for them. There is a teacher in my course who feeds the stray dogs in the College every evening after her shift. I have never had any trouble approaching any teacher.

Almost every week or days, each department introduces Placement or Workshop link in their WhatsApp groups in full comfort of the students whether they want to join or not. There were several seminars for job Placements and work opportunities. Although I’m not sure about how many attend them. Also, I believe there was another skill training class (Spoken English) that any student can join.

There are several hostels, two if I’m not mistaken, located near the College. The College has a good parking space. It is quite big although I have not seen the insides yet. It is spacious and airy with pleasant trees and environment is peaceful opposite to the College field. I often see the hostellers playing there. The hostel is near the College and is close to shops and a market so that’s good too. I don’t know much since I do not stay in hostel. However I would suggest in my understanding to stay in rent around the vicinity or in a PG. But, both has its own good and bad.

Campus is not so big. I will say that the College building is being renewed and I think it has potential to be better in the near future with the construction of another building that would also have the boys’ common room. Classes are well facilitated too and have proper benches and blackboards. The computer lab is just sweet spot. The library is peaceful too. You can study well there, read magazines and borrow books; you can study in your off times at peace under AC and quietude. And I do love that there are trees in the campus that alone really tackles the heat in summer. The campus is swept and tidied every day so that’s a good thing as well. The new buildings are very beautiful as well. There is a canteen, though I wish it was in better shape. There are common rooms separate for boys and girls where they can have leisure time and play several indoor games in there. The bulletins are very informative and eye catching as well. Several fishes are reared and there are fairly big ponds that house some fishes.

Campus life to me is just okay. It is just as it should be. With the right friends it’s enjoyable. College crowd is not much. There are several engagement activities like a Maggie Cooking competition, Talent Hunt, Acting Stage, etc. Several times the College would host some of the events. We had 3 freshers party and I loved the ABVP one, general freshers was fun too, dressing up and having fun with our friends in traditional clothes. Now that I mention it, the College is deeply culturally rooted and I have come to fall in love with the culture and personally my culture as well. We will have cultural week next year maybe in February or January and I cannot wait for that and the College fest. You know what, I love this College and if I had a chance I would choose Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati again.
