BCAS was created in October, 1995 and since then, it is affiliated to the Delhi University. It is named after the great mathematician Bhaskaracharya. And it has 16 distinct departments in which it offers 11 three-year general degree courses. It is also accredited ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and ‘Star College’ by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under which 4 of its departments are getting benefited.

The admission process is pretty simple, first you will have to fill the DU’s UG form with required documents then if you clear the cut-off list you can apply online right away and submit the fees for respected course you chose within 24 hours. The college management is very responsive and takes actions for students immediately. They have also set-up a rating system for all the teachers so that students can provide their review accordingly. Students are also free to reach higher authorities including the Principal for help if they feel they didn’t get much from the department. Plus, they also make sure that both college and university rules are strictly obeyed by both teachers and students.

In order to become a part of the BCAS family you just have to score around 90% in your academics in 3 main subjects such as Physics and one language such as English, to be on the safe side, the eligibility criteria, is more or less the same for all courses here. You can also apply through different quotas like the sports quota for example (if you are eligible according to DU’s guidelines). At least 40 seats are always present every year for the freshers. And since, all the courses are merit-based, there’s no entrance exam. Let me tell you something about myself. I’m from B.Sc Computer Science (Hons.).

I always wanted to make a career in the tech industry but didn’t score well in the JEE-Mains. So, instead of taking a drop year I chose to pursue in this course to become a part of the tech industry in one way or another. Every single college in DU is teaching the same syllabus for the same old books for a really very long time. We are supposed to be studying about new technologies, ideologies, techniques rather than learning the history. So, no, I didn’t expect that. But, on the other hand, you can apply for more and better jobs in both private and government sectors, after you complete your graduation. Or go after your masters. You will have to make your own way to succeed in life, only college study is not enough.

Just like there are every type of students in the campus, there are every type of teacher, some just love their job, some just do their job and some just, you know, go way out of the box while teaching, still all of them have friendly nature and you can reach them whenever you feel stuck in any problem. Moreover, this college consists of more than 50 faculties, in which about 45 are Ph.D in their respective field of study. I have 4 in my course. And if you want to know how well they teach? The answer is pretty simple, it depends on your definition of a good teacher.

They all have a teaching experience of minimum 10 to 15 years and are really good in their subject. However, some are always present there, in every college, who just get annoyed on little things, and no matter how better you perform after that particular “event”, they aren’t gonna change their thinking about you or anyone else if they have made their mind, I’m telling you from my personal experience.

BCAS is not known for its placements, only a few companies visit the campus every year and their package is also not that convincing, though, this may differ between departments, but that’s in a very rare case. That’s why most of the students go for off-campus placements or higher studies.

It’s surely a negative point that BCAS does not have a hostel of its own but you can easily find some PGs near the college with low rent, good local food services and safe surroundings. Or if you want you can go for apartments in the main Dwarka if you want but that would literally cost you more.

The campus covers an area of over 10 acres, consisting of one basketball, one volleyball and two badminton courts, along with the cafeteria, the main building, the Open-Air Theatre and the football/cricket ground. If you are a workout - guy, there’s an open gym for you where you can work out anytime you want. The infrastructure of BCAS is one of a kind, and when you enter there for the time you will definitely get confused. Every month there’s a workshop or summit or both going on in the AV (Audio-Video) room either organized by fellow students or the department. Every department has its own lab but some have even 3. And then we have the library, it’s basically consists of three floors, on the ground floor you can choose your preferred books and read them there, on the first floor you can issue them for taking home, and on the second floor, well, it’s also made for studying.

Now let’s skip to the delicious part – the cafeteria. Don’t get your hopes too high, the canteen offers you a variety of food from Chole Bhature to Poha, from Ramja Chawal to Chilly Potato but the prices are a bit higher than what you find in the North or South campus colleges, plus, you will get bored of it pretty soon as there’s the Vegas cinema hall, Spicy Tadka and many other restaurants which offers amazing food for a reasonable price. You can say that it’s a plus point that it is surrounded by numerous hospitals which can positively handle a medical emergency, if any, but for small injuries college can easily provide support.

BCAS is not a very huge college. It has a limited number of students, all from science background, which gives you the opportunity to show your skills among less but talented competitors to get enrolled in different types of clubs and societies like Moksh (The Music Society), Rage (The Dance Society), Akriti (The Arts Club), among many others. You will find a number of practices going on around the campus almost every 3rd day such as historic and educational plays, environmental activities, quizzes and other kinds of competitions like writing, singing, dancing etc. In addition to that, the fests are also quite amazing too. As I have mentioned before, there over 10 departments, which directly means at least 10 different fests other than the annual college fest? And each department organizes its own themed-games, interactive sessions, and puzzles, with exciting prizes, of course. It’s all the same for other celebrations like of Diwali, Holi etc. but with different preparations for each one.

Last year, the 2017’s Kalinga Awardee Erik Jacquemyn, a Belgian scientist, visited our college and took an interactive session with us where he discussed about his research, struggles and hard work. In the end, you can say that BCAS has a lot to offer but it’s only up to you how much you want to know and grow.
