University of Kerala B.Com Review By Rathna Reghu

My dream from the school days was to study at the University of Kerala. Teaching methods and approach used here is exceptional. Not all students can get admission here because marks in 12th class are a great concern. You have to pass the admission procedure of interview. The greatest advantage here is that no one compels you here for anything. It is your wish and choice what you want to pursue. Some are interested in extracurricular, some are interested in academics, some are interested in literary, and some are interested in politics. No one in this college ask you to excel in studies. Be good at what you are doing. Your seniors will assist you. My experience at the university is excellent.

The enrollment eligibility for degree is higher secondary. If you want to take up science you should have science in 12th class. It is an advantage if you get a merit seat because then you will get fee exemption. I opted for Commerce because this department is excellent in this university compared with other colleges. You will have a promising career. You have to maintain at least 75% attendance or else you will have to pay fine.

The classes were extraordinary as only the best faculty was available. Some of our faculty members are honored with PhD degree. The teaching style varies from person to person but they motivate students to prepare their own notes then taking only lecture notes.

There is a placement cell in our institute. Campus drives are also organized in each semester. Not all students get placed by this. It depends on sheer luck. There may be other competent students too. Attending the interviews is a great experience. You also get career counseling classes by experts on areas that you should improve if you aim for jobs in companies like Infosys and TCS. Many companies register for job drive such as ESAF and South Indian Bank. Free bank coaching classes are also provided for students coming from underprivileged families.

Hostel facilities for boys and girls are provided in campus. I was a day scholar but I used to stay in hostel in exam time. Hostel life is fun. You get a great opportunity to spend time with your peers and study. Recreational facilities such as playing indoor and outdoor games and TV time are provided. More than 200 students stay in hostel. There is also a hostel grievance cell to provide solutions to any problems faced by students in hostel. 4 students share a room. The hostel lock time is 6 pm. If anyone fails to get in the hostel before time then your parents must come and see warden the next day or else you will not be permitted. You can celebrate birthday party but smoking and drinking is prohibited.

There are academic blocks for various departments such as Science, Commerce, and Arts. There is also a library with books for different subjects at the university. Building is renovated each year. There is a sanitary pad vending machine. Canteen with meals and other dishes are also provided for students. There is also a theatre for arts and drama practice. A recreational room and seminar hall is also provided.

Campus life is amazing. You get a chance to make a lot of friends. You get a lot of chance to experience the outer world than what is written in books. There are many tests conducted by many departments like Science Fest by the science department, Commerce Fest by commerce club, Film Fest by the mass communication department, and many more. You have a good park in campus where you can relax in your free time. There are charity clubs for helping poor people and giving food to the by-standers in medical college. There is also a blood donation camp organized by MCC.
