St. Thomas' College of Engineering and Technology B.Tech Review By Gourav Singh

I am currently a final year student at St. Thomas College of Engineering and Technology. It is a private engineering college located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The college is affiliated to Maulana Azad Kalam University of Technology (MAKAUT) and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It offers undergraduate programs in four engineering discipline namely Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning. Taking about my overall experience in college, I would say it was overall a very good experience. As actually I was involved in all the college functions, sports tournaments, and academic works as everything is carried out in a very disciplined and organized way trying to make the best out of it. If a student is really into academics then this college can be worth their efforts. One of the very reasons why I chose this college was its popularity at that time due to its high placement ratio. This college was highly recommended by my brother who is an alumni of this college due to its overall placement scenario which was consistent for years. For a student who wants to join CSE or IT branch I would recommend them to have a look at my college and consider it as their option.

College basically consists of five departments namely Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students who are willing to join and have passed class 12th can take admission into the college either through WBJEE or JEE or direct admission though the Management quota. Each department has certain number of accommodations like the CSE department has 120 seats and the rest of the departments have only 60 seats.

Faculties here are highly qualified and have a friendly nature. Each departments have their respective faculties who teach their subject of specialization. Each teacher has their unique way of teaching and is eager to help students to learn. Faculties of departments of CSE and IT have one of the best faculties as compares to other colleges in Kolkata. They are always ready to help you irrespective of the department you are in. Apart from academics; the professors also support students in other fields.

This college has one the best placement ratio as compared to other private engineering colleges in Kolkata. Last year placement ratio was around 97%. I myself was placed in a very renowned company so I can confidently tell that placement won't be an issue in this college. Some of the companies who recruit in our college are NRI FT, Cognizant, LTIMindtree, Infosys, P360, ITC InfoTech, and many other reputed companies. Apart from that the training and placement cell of the college is really helpful and do their best to guide each and every student through placement process.

College doesn't have their own hostel facilities but that doesn't seem to be a major problem for any student travelling from outside. As the college is located in the mid of the city finding an affordable rented room is not a big deal. Many of my friends are from other states and they happily stay in the flat near college. They don't have to travel much in order to reach college.

The infrastructure of the college consists of different blocks for each department and the college is distributed in a huge area of 30 acres. It has a neat hygienic canteen where students can have their food and chill. Apart from that college consists of two separate common room for both girls and boys where they can play several indoor games such as table tennis, carom, chess, etc. College consists of two huge grounds where students are free to play any sports activities. Each departmental building has their laboratories where well equipped modern machineries are kept for practical purposes. Overall one can say that college has a well developed infrastructure with a good maintenance.

Speaking from my personal point of view, this college will provide the best experience overall. I have been in this college for 4 years where I have participated in every fest and sports activities being done. Every student here is eager to participate in college activities. Each year college conducts technical fest and farewell for the pass out batches and departmental sports. The only thing that lacks from my perspective is that college doesn't conduct any fresher activities and the cultural fest is also held after every 2 years. Overall the college has an exciting life which a perfect balance of academics and other activities.
