Seth Anandaram Jaipuria College is one of the most well-known colleges in Kolkata. It is mostly famous for its commerce department. The college is affiliated with The University of Calcutta which is one of the most top ranking universities in India. The college itself ranks among the top 10 colleges in West Bengal. The college is situated at Raja Nabakrishna Street at Shobhabazar in Kolkata. The college is within walking distance from the Shobhabazar metro station subway. It is very easy to find and easily accessible by several transportation forms. If you have a good percentage in your 12th standard results and you are looking forward to doing B.Com then this is the college for you.

Admission in this college like any other college is done through an online portal where you will have to register and log in with your email ID and a unique password. Then you will see an option for an online application, clicking on that you will receive a digital form, fill it up with the details asked. After filling the form you will need to submit it. The college takes a nominal fee for applying that you will have to pay online or through a bank challan. After that, the admission process is mostly offline after the merit list is published. The management of the college handles the official work which includes the admission process. The management here is efficient and helpful. One would face no problems at all during the admission paperwork or any other paperwork during college life.

That course I had taken and graduated from the college was B.Com and as I said Jaipuria College is known for the commerce department. I was a commerce student in high school too as my passion was to become an entrepreneur myself. The department helped a lot in my undergraduate studies; I had the subjects I needed available to me as options here. The professors of this department are highly trained in their assigned topics so I had no problem understanding course.

The eligibility for the course was decided through a merit list in which students were ranked according to their marks. The eligibility criterion for the application was 55% in high school finals and 55% on the subject in which I was planning to major. My degree from the college helped me a lot in the future for reference and to get hired for jobs in accounting positions and also to get admission in M.Com. The college also holds seminars to make the students understand the job market situation right now.

The faculty in this college is quite impressive. We had 9 professors and 5 assistant professors for the commerce undergraduate department. The college has a total of 29 professors and 14 assistant professors for the whole undergraduate section. The faculties here are very enthusiastic and are always determined to find out what is best for the students. They take special care of each student in a class. They take regular attendance to keep a record of every student and their interest in being present in the class.

All the faculties in this college have a minimum experience of 6 years of teaching and the maximum experience can go up to 20 years and above. So yes the college has several experienced professors handling the students. The professors of the college hold a Ph.D. in their subjects and the assistant professors are mostly postgraduates that are working on their Ph.D. under some professor. Some of the assistant professors are also part-timers that are guest lecturers when they are not engaged with their research work.

This college trains the students to prepare for job interviews; this skill comes in handy when they enter the job market after getting their degrees. I had no problem with handling interviews when I tried various jobs after getting my degree. The placement from Seth Anandaram Jaipuria is quite high as the companies always want a commerce graduate from one of the top commerce colleges under the University of Calcutta. Despite this fact, there are not many companies that conduct in campus interviews as the college is a government undergrad college. Some major companies do conduct campus interviews, but the competition for placement in these interviews is very high.

The percentage of students that receive a package in our batch was not very high in the case of in campus interviews but the batch mates I know are placed in good companies and are earning sustainable packages after they applied for interviews. The maximum package received by a student to my knowledge was around Rs. 48,000 INR per year. So if you learn the skills thought in the courses here with enough enthusiasm you will not find it too hard to get a placement in one of the well-known companies in India.

The college does not have a hostel of itself; however there are several hostels, messes and PGs situated close to the college. This college is a coed institution so it receives both male and female students that come from distant places to study here, so it is obvious and necessary that they find a lodging facility for both boys and girls. There are both gents hostels and ladies hostels situated close to the college. The college will not help with any of the procedures for getting a room in the hostel, but they will give you the contact details and location of the hostels if you enquire them about it.

The hostels around the college are affordable but not cheap. Hostel rooms available almost throughout the year so there is nothing to worry about. The average yearly charges of these hostels are at most 36000 INR just for lodging. The food available in these hostels is not very high end, I recommend the students to eat somewhere outside the hostels for most of the days in a week. If you get a room in one of the hostels you must be careful about locking up your room while leaving for college or going outside as the security is mediocre in every hostel in this area.

Jaipuria College has one of the largest campuses in Kolkata. The college building is huge; it has five storied and many classrooms. Among those classrooms, there are a few galleries too. There are a huge number of seats. The college can create a future for a lot of aspiring students. The college has a playground where the students interested in the college outdoor sports teams can polish their skills by practicing. There is a common room where the college has a lot of indoor games available for every student in the college.

The college has large classrooms as most of them were built in the mid-early 90s. The college is comparatively new so it has modern architecture. There is a gymnasium for the students that want to stay fit and in a good shape, the gym charges are charged with the monthly fees so the only requirement you will need is permission from your head of the department to join the gym. The college has a canteen that serves healthy food for affordable prices the food here is tasty and the cafeteria for students to eat is clean too. If a student suddenly suffers from a medical problem there is an emergency room where the medical staff takes initial care of the student before moving him or her to a medical institution if needed.

The campus life of the college is honestly very much fun, there are a lot of places where students can sit and have a group discussion about their studies and other hot topics. I have made a lot of friends during my time at college. You can get involved with a lot of social activities if you get attached to the NGOs that exist within the college, if college politics interest you then there is a college union for you to join. There are many social groups and clubs available for students. The clubs are of different genres like art, debate, sports and so on.

There are a lot of celebrations each year in this college the session starts with a fresher's party and other celebrations like teachers day follow. Two major events of the college are annual sports that are arranged in the mid-winter that is either at the end of December or at the beginning of January. The college fest is held in October or November and this fest various colleges are invited both as guests and as participants in the cultural competitions held by the college. All the students get into a festive mood during this period.
