City College of Commerce and Business Administration B.Com Review By Anwesh Banerjee

One of the most popular and best colleges in Kolkata for commerce students, City College of Commerce and Business Administration is affiliated with University of Calcutta. It is also known as Mirzapur City. It was established in 1961. It offers only B.Com courses for undergraduates. This college is boys college. The building is located in Mirzapur Street (Surya Sen Street) opposite to the famous college square. It is the 9th college in Brahmo Samaj. It was the first college to pursue only commerce in West Bengal. It is an evening college which starts from 4:30 pm and ends at 9 pm. Our morning section is known as Umesh Chandra College. In the day time, our building is used for school purpose named as City School. One it provides a lot of benefits to the meritorious students. It provides an opportunity for those who are having a financial crisis or disability.

The online admission portal made the admission process very easy. Everybody from anywhere can access the admission process. The admission process starts every year after the announcement of the 12th-grade result. My college management system provides a lot of facilities like enrollment, admission process. College management makes it easy to control all the students during their admission.

I enrolled myself to this college for pursuing B.Com (Hons.) course. For taking in this college the candidate must pass their 12th exam with good grades. A student is eligible to take accountancy honors when scores 60% on that specific subject. Minimum 50% is required for pursuing the general course. No entrance exam is taken. This course will help you in building up a business or getting a job. Our college has a total of 900 seats. 750 seats are for honors students and the remaining are for general students. 22% of the seats are for the SC and 6% for OBC. As per the new government rule, 17% of seats are reserved for OBC.

After completing this course, you will get parity of career options Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Chartered Accountancy (CA), Company Secretary (CS), Master of Commerce (M.Com), Business Accounting, US Certified Public Accounting etc. Each year many firms recruit fresh candidate’s passing from these courses. The firms provide training and increase practical experiences. Many private banks, as well as government banks, hire candidates from B.Com general course or honors course.

My course consists of 35 faculties. All the teachers have more than 15 years of experience in teaching at my college. Enthusiastic faculties help us in getting proper guidance. Our teachers encourage us to take part in all the co-curricular activities including sports and academic purpose. Every teacher belongs from a highly qualified academic background. We have 8 teachers with PhD degree holder and others with a masters degree.

Every teaching staff is specialised in their own subject and teaches us very preciously and sincerely. Their lectures are very important to us. Their guidance are very valuable, it makes us ready for the industry as well as prepares our mind. All the teachers always help us with their great teaching quality. They always try to give their best.

My college provides placement to Concentrix IBM. In the year of 2017, my college gave placement to 15 students from campus recruitment drive. The salary range was Rs. 18000- 30000 monthly. The internship is provided in 5th and 6th SEM. My college has many collaborations. The role offered to them was Accounts analysis. After every year ends, many companies approach our college to recruit the students. Companies like Wipro, TCS, Cognizant and some banks visit our college for placements.

I don’t stay in a hostel because I have easy access to college via bus. City College of Commerce and Business Administration does not provide any hostel facilities. There are many hostels as well as PG available near our college at a reasonable rate. My college is located in college street near Sealdah station. My college is easily accessible by train and bus. You can stay near my college as there are many flats, pg, and hostels available. The hostels available are very cheap it is around Rs. 5000 per month.

Our infrastructure is very good. We have a canteen on our campus which is very cheap and good. The canteen staffs are very friendly. There is a little open area in the base. We play cricket, football, badminton in the open area. There is a common room in our college which has many carom boards, table tennis board, and chess. We mostly spend our free time in this common room. There is a library which is very clean and consists of many relatable as well as valuable books and journals. You can access free Wi-Fi. The deposit money is Rs. 300 for our library and you will get the refund after your graduation. We celebrate our teachers day, children's day in our common room. The common room opens at 6 pm and closes at 9 pm. On Saturday our common room remains closed as Saturday is a half-day.

Our College building consists of 4 floors. Each floor has several classrooms. There is a parents-teacher meeting room and a hall. We have a teachers room where we can visit a particular teacher with our queries. Each classroom has the capacity of holding 150 students. Our college has an audiovisual room where the teachers teach us with the help of a projector so that we can understand the topic properly and deeply. This room is used for seminars and symposia. Our college is going to launch a new job placement cell. My college has a great computer lab on the ground floor, where we give our external vivas and do our practical works.

In my opinion, my college campus life is very enjoyable. Besides education, we organise many cultural activities and many events. Every student can showcase their talents and skill on different events. Our college fest is organized once in a year. Each year our union organises “FRESHERS WELCOME” party. Our seniors are very friendly as this is an anti raging college. Our student union is very cooperative and supportive. Our college organises both indoor game and outdoor games each and every year. The annual day sports programme is organised every year. We take part in the inter-college competition as well as state-level completion.

We have NSS unit made by following the Calcutta University guidelines. It organises many camps for social awareness. My college organises many seminars with scholars regarding carrier oriented goals and carrier counseling. We take part in a blood donation camp for a noble cause. All the students are welcome to take active roles in all the events.
