Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College is one of the most renowned colleges in Kolkata. It is situated in a very posh and easily accessible area. You can reach college by taking the metro or bus. The college is affiliated with the University of Calcutta, one of India's most famous universities. It is also listed among the top 10 universities of India. The college is mostly famous for its various streams of courses and the flexibility to choose your chosen subjects. If you have scored quite a good percentage in your Higher Secondary and you are willing to take admission for your graduation course in a college that has a good study environment with an easily accessible transport system, then Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College is probably the perfect choice for you.

There are several courses that you can choose according to your career preference. Being a commerce student in my high school, I always dreamt of being a Chartered Accountant and serving the country as one of the financial sector guardians. When I entered the college, I was totally unaware of the rules and regulations of the college, but my seniors and the management of the college guided me about how to take the utmost advantage of the services offered by the college.

I chose to study Bachelor of Commerce for which the eligibility criteria to fill the form is at least 55% in your Higher secondary. I had no issues with that because I scored 85% in my board exams, and it was a cakewalk for me to take admission. However, a lot of students were there who struggled a lot for taking admission because of the limited number of seats. The college is conducted in two shifts Morning, which starts at 7 am and Day, which starts at 11 am. The college holds many seminars on career counseling, which directly helps the students, choose their further career and get an outline of the tasks they have performed in the upcoming times. I didn’t know much about the Chartered Accountancy course but in a seminar conducted by the Indian Institute of Chartered Accountant in the college Alumni cleared all my doubts.

The faculty of the college is one of the best in the entire Kolkata. The professors who taught us were the gems they taught us about the course and how the actual system outside the college works and what we need to practice to survive this brutal competition. The style of teaching of the professors was totally unique. I never encountered such easy ways of doing accountancy and tricks to score more than average in the exams.

All the faculties were quite experienced and knew very well about their subjects; some were even toppers in their time and won many medals and certificates. The best part about the faculty is all of them are super polite and have very frank behavior with the students. They answer each and every question and make sure that everybody has understood the topics well. I personally had difficulties in understanding the terms of Economics and suffered from low marks, but our economics professor was very helpful; he always cleared my doubts by sitting in the library in the vacant periods.

The college guides the students about the placement interviews. They guided us well and told us about the skills and mindset that the companies are looking for. Very few companies came to our college when I was in my final year, but they were one of the biggest companies globally. The companies that came to my time were Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, ICICI Bank, and Wipro. The competition is always going to be high as the companies pick very few of the students but to get selected in the interview, you need academic skills as well as marketable skills. The annual package of the students who got selected was not much high as the companies pay their employees according to their experience and skills.

The highest package that a student received was around 6,00,000 INR per annum. The college also guides us on how to crack the government exams to get a secured government job. There were many IAS aspirants in our college who were determined to crack the UPSC exams, and some of them finally cracked after doing a lot of hard work. There are many students who think that if they don’t get a job in the college placement, their career is finished, but that’s not true hundreds of students get rejected in those interviews but find a way to survive and excel in life. The never give up attitude that students developed in college were the most important part of our lives.

The college doesn’t offer any kind of hostel facility, but there are many nearby PG and rental services available for migrated students from other states. This is a co-educational platform, so both male and female students from all over the country come to study in the college. Don’t worry if you’re coming from a different state there are hostels and PGs for both boys and girls situated close to the college where many students live together. The college will not provide any kind of stay, nor it will help you find any hostels, but the management members will surely help you by providing the contact details of some hostels.

The rates of the hostels near the college lie somewhere between 36000 to 60000 INR per annum. It totally depends on the area of the hostel. The food is sold separately via different mess services some hostels have their own mess but charge for it separately. It’s your call whether you want to take it or not. You may have a question in your mind that if you choose to have the mess what about the quality of the food? It totally depends on the hostel; the quality of the food varies from place to place. Make sure you lock the door properly before leaving for college or tuition. The security of these hostels is not that good.

The Infrastructure of the college is humungous. There are two five-storied buildings. It is one of the biggest colleges in Kolkata. The classrooms are mediocre in size but enough to conduct full-fledged classes with maximum attendance. The college believes in maintaining the decorum of study. So it doesn’t allow more than fifty students in a class. The college has recently been renovated in the past year now the college looks totally new, and there are no messed sections. The college has a big canteen where students can go and have their meals in the recess.

The canteen delivers healthy food at very affordable prices. There is always a doctor present for any sort of emergency. Covering all the facts, the college has very well managed and maintained infrastructure so that the students get a quality environment for studying. There is also a games room for the students to play several indoor games like carom, table tennis, chess, etc. There are separate labs for every subject that needs practical sessions. The library was a must-watch when I entered college for the first time I was dumbstruck because I have never seen such a big library in my life. You’ll find all kinds of books of your interest and books related to respective courses so that you can understand your subjects well.

I don’t think any other college would have such a good environment. The campus environment is full of energy, and fun everybody is enjoying their college days which make you feel good. There is also a small garden inside the campus to glorify the beauty of the campus. The frank behavior between the professors and students is a cherry on top of a cake. It makes you feel that you’re with the best people you will ever meet in your entire life.

There are many things like NGOs, and if you’re interested in joining the college politics, then you can join the student’s union of the college. The college organizes a fest every year that takes place between the month of December and January. Students perform and show their co-curricular talents the toppers are given are honored with trophies and gifts.
