University of Lucknow B.Com Review By Vijay Yadav

If you compare the overall stature of the courses offered by the University of Lucknow, some are best while some need fine tuning. Like I did B.Com from there and must say there was nothing much in store for B.Com students. Hardly any practicals, no internship programs or placement facility. Yes, getting job after passing out from University of Lucknow is relatively simpler but still nothing at the campus. The admission process too is complex as nearly 6 merit list of the college are published. The process is too lengthy I guess and the management too is lethargic for their B.Com course. The best part though was other students on board as the University has various colleges offering many courses. By the end of B.Com, I had entire information on how to get a seat at the University of Lucknow.

The admission process is based on merit as that is how I got the admissions here. The syllabus has all the common subjects that you will find in B.Com, i.e. Accounts, Eco, Statistics, and Costing and Auditing. We had 9 subjects each year as I choose B.Com (Hons) and B. Com just had 6 every year. I don’t know what difference it created as students from both the courses have mostly the same faculty. The college timing was in the noon and daily 5 classes were conducted. The classrooms were great and made us attend the college. The attendance required was 70% but even the students with less attendance were allowed to keep terms.

The faculty was good as they did their best in creating interest in students. The course is one of the easiest and the faculty also made us realize the same. The faculty members keep urging to ask for doubts all three years but hardly a few of them actually turn up. Thus the faculty was serious but the students were not. Faculty did all that was in their hands to help us understand the value of accountancy as accountability is compulsory in each firm. No complaints with them as they were the reason why I didn’t drop out in between.

We could only see other department studies getting placed as in our departments there was no such facility. Even after requesting the management didn’t do anything that can help our cause. We were only advised to enroll for higher studies at the University if we need placements. I got the placement as soon as I showed the University but I wish we don’t have to rub our shoes to get placed.

In the main campus there are 8 boys and 5 girls hostels which are common for all the departments. I stayed at the Balram boys hostel which is nearly 150 years old but the building was renovated and therefore the rooms are new and has all the facilities one needs during his student life. The rooms are given on triple sharing and the kitchen is also given with a gas and stove. Sports competitions were held between students of different colleges and not just sports but cultural events as well. This was the best part as commerce students were the one who took the cake. Daily newspapers, a security guard underneath the building was always in place. The hostel was safe and gave us an opportunity to showcase our skills.

The newly built campus is built in 75 acres of land and has separate buildings for each department. Apart from the admin block and our college building, I didn’t see any but all buildings have the same structure and have the same facilities. One thing that stands out among various facilities at the University campus is the central library. The digital library even has its own website and served as a boon for students during the exams. The university has indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The campus also accommodates a health and medical center. Including the old campus and the second campus there are 8 canteens that serve fresh and packed foods. All the canteens are located at a distance from each other so that one is not far from the canteen whenever they are hungry. There are 4 gates for the campus and we used to enter via gate 4 as our department was close to that.

The campus life was at its helm as there is nothing extraordinary. I mean the facilities are but still used to sack up in the city for fun. The campus has arranged a yoga center and other facilities for students interested in health & fitness or want to indulge in any sporting event. The university has created a benchmark with the facilities that they have provided for students. I enjoyed my time at the campus but won’t say I was full satisfied as I believe I chose the wrong course. If you want to pursue B.Com then please don’t leave your hometown for the University of Lucknow but a big thumbs up if you want to pursue any other course.
