Asian College of Journalism Reviews on Placement, Faculty, Hostel by Students

There are a lot of media schools in Delhi like Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, IAAN School of Mass Communication, and NRAI School of Mass Communication to name a few. ACJ Chennai though is different and I had to get out of Delhi to understand the life and have some me time. Chennai was way too far and ACJ was ranking among the top schools and therefore it became my 1st choice and after having cleared the interview, I left my parents with no option but to allow me to go to Chennai. ACJ is quite different from other mass communication colleges as M.A. in journalism here is a three years course. I was surprised but then realized that one doesn’t need to be from the same background to study here as everything starts afresh here. So, first year was like a revision or an overview of what we will be studying and what all things are a part of journalism. I was so excited to join ACJ Chennai as I thought that the college is owned by the Hindu Group so I will have the best of placements and will learn about every inch of journalism. Well, it was all untrue as nothing like that happened rather ended up spending some extra time at the college. Also, the course is so lengthy because MA for three years was not just new for me but for everyone who heard about it. In the interview that was mandatory for admissions, we were asked about the latest happening in the world of politics, sports, and other things. So, if one is not updated, they were straightaway rejected. In short those who don’t read daily newspaper can never get here. Well, sorry for stretching the interview but the best part as we were asked a lot of questions on taboo things in our country and our opinions and answers were taken into consideration. After going through such grill, I was like finally, I will be in a sweet spot but trust me the course was unnecessary lengthy as 6 months of mandatory internships and all for free of cost hasn’t fetched anything fruitful.Read Full Review

Being a journalist had always been a long unfulfilled quest of mine, until I enrolled in the Asian College of Journalism in 2016. The process was simple enough, one can file their application online or download a copy and mail over a hard copy. I chose the former and sent in the requisite application fees as well. The application fees cost me around INR 2360 and the business, financial journalism streams are slightly higher. The MA (Journalism) has many streams which we can choose from the 2nd year onwards. For admissions, I had to appear for an entrance test and the rest, as they say, is history. I had to admit, that I had certain thoughts on what a career in journalism should be like, but ACJ surprised me on all counts, from the faculty to its infrastructure. Today, ACJ College stands out as a college of journalism, from the rest. It was established around 1994 in Bangalore. Since then, it was shifted to Taramani, Chennai to an 80-acre campus. The grounds are extensive and well designed. The ironic part is that the college was first established by the Indian Express group, and offered only print journalism. But today, it offers several streams, each being managed by a well-talented faculty, along with an exceptional curriculum, one that certainly helped bring out the best in me.Read Full Review
