The establishment of the Tmt. Kannammal Education Trust in 1985 paved the way for the incorporation of the Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Trust. The constitution of the Tmt. Kannammal Education Trust facilitated the institution of the Thai Moogambigai Polytechnic College in 1985. Thereafter, the Dr. MGR Engineering College was set up in 1988 followed by the foundation of Thai Moogambigai Dental College in 1991.
Both the engineering and dental colleges attained the status of ‘Deemed University’ in 2003 and these institutions were rechristened as Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute. Presently, the Chennai-based educational and research institution has thirteen distinct schools of study or faculties. Some of the faculties include engineering & technology, dental surgery, humanities & science, medical and allied health sciences, architecture, management studies, computer applications, pharmacy, and nursing.
Since its inception, the academic institute has been fruitfully meeting the higher education needs of innumerable students in the aforementioned areas. The institution together with the schools of study under its aegis, has been delivering quality higher education to the young generation. The institution ensures that all its students acquire professional and personal skills as well as updated knowledge in order to have a scintillating career.
MGR Educational and Research Institute not only offers industry-driven programs and courses but also updates them on a periodic basis. The college authorities also encourage students to participate in curricular, extracurricular, and co-curricular activities with a view to boost their academic performance. The institution offers a wide range of sports facilities and regularly organizes debates, seminars, socio-cultural events, and industry-academia interface for transforming students into talented professionals.
The different programs offered by MGRERIC have the approval of multiple regulatory bodies like UGC, AICTE, DCI, PCI, MCI, and NAAC. A good number of alumni have gone to become highly successful industry stalwarts and entrepreneurs, thereby boosting the institution’s goodwill.
The institution, over the years, have been awarded with good rankings from recognized review bodies like IQAC, NIRF, NAAC, ABET, and NBA.
