
The Presidency University was earlier established in 1817 as ‘Hindoo College’ and later renamed to ‘Presidency College of Bengal’ in 1855. Later on, it started operations as a University in 2010. The State Public University located in Kolkata, West Bengal is approved by UGC and accredited by NAAC.
The Presidency University is known for being one of the first Western-type higher education institutions in Asia, high quality education & its notable alumni. Note: There is no minimum / maximum age limit for admission in the UG & PG courses. Additionally, for UG courses, students must have scored valid marks in the Presidency University Bachelor's Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET).
Admission Process
Candidates who wish to study in the programs offered by the Presidency University Kolkata can apply for admission through its online portal only. For UG courses, admission seats will be filled as per the merit list of the entrance test i.e., PUBDET conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB). Followed by this, counselling will be conducted.
For admission in PG programs, the General Merit Rank (GMR) of individual students & a General Merit List will be prepared on the basis of their marks in the respective qualifying exams.
* For admission in the PG programs, candidates are permitted to apply for one subject only.
Reservation Criteria
The Presidency University grants admission in the Undergraduate & Postgraduate programs according to the reservation norms of the West Bengal State Higher Education Institutions, Department of Higher Education, and the Government of West Bengal. Reservation seats are offered to the students belonging to the SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B / PwD categories of West Bengal.
