Garware Institute of Career Education and Development or GICED is a privately managed institution located in Mumbai that was founded in 1984. The University of Mumbai has granted affiliation to GICED, and the institution has received ‘Grade A’ accreditation from NAAC. GICED offers admission in a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in retail management, tourism & travel industry management, jewelry design, aviation, sports management, and so on.
Late Padmabhushan Balanchandra Digamber, also known as Abasaheb Garware, a celebrated visionary, and industrialist, established the Garware Group of Industries. Abasaheb Garware founded nearly seventy-five trusts for promoting various charitable and social causes. One of these trusts was set up primarily for laying the foundations of GICED which is a perfect embodiment of the synergy between industry and education.
He established GICED with the pious objective of rekindling a renewed interest in traditional arts and crafts that were gradually disappearing. Skilled workforce for practicing the hereditary trades and businesses were scarce and hardly available when Garware founded GICED. Prof. Ram Joshi, the former vice-chancellor of the University of Mumbai, gave a proposal to Abasaheb for the establishment of an institution that would be dedicated to furthering career-oriented education.
Consequently, the House of Garware inked an agreement with the University of Mumbai that led to the foundation of GICED. GICED offers fulltime and part-time UG and PG diploma courses, bachelor's and master's programs, and certification courses. GICED’s various courses and programs enable students to gain practical exposure to the dog-eat-dog corporate world. Aspirants can pursue a diploma or certificate course of GICED (besides their routine degree or diploma program) for sharpening their professional skills and developing their personalities.
Every program of GICED aligns with the policies of NSQF (National Skill Qualification) and NSDC. GICED strives to identify commercial sectors with potential for rapid growth and subsequently establish facilities for training individuals who will meet the workforce requirement of such industries.
