First of all, it’s a complete residential program and even though I was from Mumbai, I had to stay at the hostel. Nevertheless, this was because of the kind of project work we were given, if one wastes time in traveling or settling down then there’s no way one can complete their assignments. The pattern as I said was in-between but the opportunities we had during the academic year made SJMSOM my favourite. Along with summer, we were also provided a month-long winter internship in the industry we like. I was skeptical about finance so decided to try my luck in FMCG and there were top options like Marico, Colgate, and Nestle for me. Opportunities galore at SJMSOM and that’s what makes the academic department of the college incredible.

An engineering student always finds it hard to have a first crack at the management studies. Finance, economics were never my subjects and learning them was very difficult at the beginning. Luckily for engineering students, the seniors took extra classes on Saturday and taught us the lessons on management. Engineering students used to outclass commerce students in maths but we were certainly outplayed in finance. This chemistry worked really well as students of both the streams worked hand in hand and cracked the code of the management studies.

Unlike many B-Schools, the studies here are a little different. During my time the cut-off was 96.6 percentile in CAT for the next round and so one can imagine the quality of in-take that the institute has. The course is tougher than many colleges and still the old-style study existed which I hope has changed by now. Slangs were used and you have to figure out what it meant. There were internships during both the year and it was mandatory to be a part of it. College lectures would carry on for 8-10 hours a day and just one 30 minutes break in between. The studies here are as tough as it is in IITs as the academic culture of both the institute is more or less the same.
