Students are advised to get well-acquainted with the paper pattern of the IIT JAM 2026 exam so that they do not face any difficulty on the actual exam day. The IIT JAM Exam Pattern 2026 decided by the conducting body states that the National-level test will be conducted in 2 sessions through online Computer Based Test (CBT) mode once a year.

IIT JAM will be held for a period of 180 minutes wherein students have to answer 60 questions for a total of 100 marks. The medium of instruction will be English. There will be 34 sections in the question paper namely, Section A, Section B, and Section C, comprising MCQ, MSQ, and NAT type questions, respectively. The marking pattern is different for each section. Furthermore, negative marking will be done only in Section A.
