Bhavan's College B.Com Review By Ajay Pandey

I don’t know how to put words together writing for Bhavans. I passed out some 7 years back and I don’t know why I went there. Maybe because it was close to my house. First let me complete the good things as they are just a few. The best thing that Bhavan’s have is the infrastructure and the campus. Location too is good. Am I done with the good things? Yes, I am for sure. Now let me get real as there is not just an imbalance but a serious one that comes to my mind is the teachers over there. Most of them don’t deserve to be teaching. Crowd again 90% of the students are from Andheri. The college claims to be the hottest campus in Mumbai. Forget Mumbai, it doesn’t even stand a chance even in suburbs. Oh, I forgot one more good thing about the college that is they don’t have any religion or caste quota. That has to be one the pluses as they are few.

The surreal part is this college’s academics. After 4 months of my B.Com admission I knew what my college timings are. It’s not entirely my fault as during the first week I was serious and went to the college daily and we were told classes will start at 8am. The first professor that came was around 10.30 and informed us that the schedule will be posted on the notice board. For the first whole week I daily went to the college and had a glimpse at the notice board. I just made few friends then and from the next week onwards, we used to by our time teasing and playing. Not just 1st year, in the entire 3 years I haven’t attended more than 30 lectures for sure. The college was quite happy with us as they didn’t care a penny. Hence, if you are studious and actually loves attending college, please don’t join this college as I have my sources who told me it’s still the same.

This part is my favorite one because the teachers who are the backbone of a college are the reason for the downfall of this college. From what I saw that the faculty that cared of BMS were strict because the students were punctual, and I could see the lectures going on smoothly. This is the reason that I mentioned that there is a massive mismatch among the faculty members. You can ask any B.Com students for that matter and will know that there are no timings when it comes to B. Com.

You ought to kidding me now. This is again a good thing about the college that they themselves say that B. A. and B. Com students will not get any placements. If you run the program so pathetically how can one even approach us.

The college campus doesn’t have a hostel but, Andheri is the place where maximum students who study in Mumbai stay. There are various PGs, hostels, and residential flats in the area. Many students are always in the search of a roommate and you can see stickers posted need a flat mate everywhere in and around college area. PGs are affordable as they will cost somewhere in range of Rs. 10,000 per month while flats can cost around 40-50000.

Among various other colleges of Mumbai, Bhavan’s college is big. There are 3 blocks inside the campus. The buildings are little old, but the interiors have been changed with modern furniture’s. The college has one of the biggest as the strength of the college is high and to cater these many students the canteen has been built wisely. The canteen is pure vegetarian and the rates are cheap. One plate of fried rice in our days priced around 50 which in comparison to other food joints were extremely cheap and better as well. Library was not my subject while in Bhavan’s but the college does have. Volleyball court is there inside the college and the parking is ample or should I say more than enough.

Time pass was the reason why we used to the college. Loved all the time that was spent in the campus. Playing volleyball, sipping coffees, and roaming around is how I passed my time during graduation. The final year, I got serious and did joined MBA coaching classes and therefore hardly went to the college. I know my opinion might hurt many but the truth is truth because the crowd that you will find in campus, you won't even find 20% of that in the classes. Further I leave it for to imagine why then they used to come to the college and all. The good part is that some people have started some clubs and cultural fest of Bhavan’s can be compared with peers because there is no shortage of talent in the girl. The ‘Kaanta Laga’ is an alumnus of our college and there are many others who have passed out from this college. Thus, for those who are actually not into studying and make a career in something else they can have a shot at Bhavan’s as there are many things going around in the campus to be a part of.
