Ness Wadia College of Commerce BBA Review By Anil Mishra

I joined Ness Wadia College BBA and at the beginning was skeptical as it was not the college I came to Pune for. To uplift and motivate the students the college arranged an induction program in the first month of BBA. That was surreal and the topics that were discussed were a part of college programs and students were asked to be involved with those. The scope for extracurricular activities are ample and even though the location of the college is such that there are many other distractions but college kept us on bay. Last but not the least one word for Pune as coming from a small town, Meerut never thought will land up in Pune one day. Pune itself is so motivating for students as the food and climate of Pune is a bonus that comes with the top colleges of the country.

The course I opted was BBA and therefore the life was so relaxed and chilled out. 2 semester exams and few assignments summed up the course every year. If you are attending classes then clearing the exams will be a stroll in the park. Along with academics many experts from different fields conducted guest lectures. Some of the guest lectures that were conducted were on the topics like women empowerment & security, GST filing, Approaching Share Markets and Importance of Cyber Security. All these were a part of curriculum and lectures from industry experts helped earning those topics simplified.

Ness Wadia College has the best or should I say the best of best faculty who are top qualified and hold degrees from the top colleges of the country. I don’t have the literal figures of the experience they had but one thing for sure they were qualified enough to teach us the best. The faculty was blessed with precise knowledge but believed in sharing that and each one of us were called personally if we had doubts or questions regarding a subject or topic. The teachers were so friendly and down to earth and not just study doubts but personal doubts were also cleared by them. The best thing was that they themselves forced us to walk to hem for doubts.

From the 1st year itself the internship opportunities were provided. The internship forms are available at the reception one just needs to fill that and college will take care of the rest. A week after form submission, I saw my name on the notice board with my summer internship at Axis Bank. At first, I didn’t realize how big an opportunity is that. Similarly I worked for 2 more industries as an intern and knew where I would want to work in future. The BBA students also got some great placements from the campus itself. For that also we were required to fill a form. I knew I want to do higher studies and didn’t appear for the interview. The placement for BBA students was round about Rs. 4-6 LPA and it were the banks and brokerage houses that showed a keen interest on BBA students.

Wadia college has hostel facilities for boys and girls. Two different wings and 2 new hostels construction started when I left the college. The hostel that we had during our time was below average as the rooms were clean but were old. The girls hostel had attached washrooms but for boys the bathrooms were common. CCTV cameras were installed and security was tight. No entry after 9pm and if you have failed to come by then you will not be allowed to enter the hostel. I remember spending nights at pool and snooker centers nearby the whole night as in Pune you never know what time it is, the city is always hustling and bustling with crowd. The hostel also had separate mess for boys and girls but the food was yukk. I am sorry for using that word but since I stayed there for 2 years, I know how it tasted.

The computer lab was fantastic and e-learning classes and courses were taught there. Paying just nominal fees you can learn Tally and GST filing at the computer lab. The college library was immense and the reading area was enough to accommodate over 100 students at a time. The open air theatre was a platform to learn dance, yoga, or martial arts as proper tutors were called to take sessions. The campus had 5 different colleges in it and all of them shared a large canteen that served various kind of food. The college has a proper cricket ground with a pitch prepared and you will see students playing cricket the entire day.

There was so much to learn and must say that Wadia defeated all my expectations. My wings of desires enhanced and got a reason in life. Again I can’t stop myself from describing Pune in terms of colleges. Either the small city should learn how the colleges should be governed or to the students from small town if you can afford don’t reserve yourself and come to Pune as the colleges here have a lot to offer. The college campuses maybe different but the culture of grooming students remains the same. Wadia was a world-class college for me as I never knew the importance that a college plays in shaping the future.
