Ness Wadia College of Commerce BBA Review By Akashdeep Singh

'Ness Wadia College of Commerce' students are referred to as Wadian, while 'Symbiosis College' students are referred to as Symbian and 'MIT' students are known as MITian. I mentioned all these Colleges as these are some of the most popular Colleges of BBA in Pune. BMCC is also pretty good but is more or less the same as Wadia; it's that BMCC has started an entrance for it while Wadia still hasn't introduced any entrance for BBA. Admission was done for HSC marks, but for those who have done junior College from Wadia, the cut-off is less for them, while for others the cut-off goes as high as 86%. I am talking about the 2017 batch as now it may be close to 90 because the competition is increasing and the demand for BBA courses is on a rise; I won't be surprised if the cut-off has touched 90%.

So, I liked their academic part as all the College success has come because of the kind of academics they have maintained. Wadia has made sure to get the best out of their students. There's no one, two or three, as all students are treated equally. In fact, the ones at the top are awarded more responsibility as the College asks them to help out the one who needs help. So, the toppers end up with more responsibilities, but with regard to everything, it's a great move. Most tasks that are awarded are team tasks and the team keeps swapping. So, the academic part at Wadia looked good, as all the counterpart styles were adopted, and the College has set itself at par with the top Colleges that I have mentioned.

In students there was no first best; but in faculties, it was no third best or second best, because the best teacher gets a handsome reward and award at the annual function. The voting was done by students, and thus the faculties were box-office, as every faculty were circumspect in teaching us as they needed that vote. So, students given such power help both ways. The faculties can never show favoritism here, and their juggernaut keeps rolling on throughout.

The placements here were key as many top companies came for placements. We were allowed to appear for as many interviews as we wanted. So, all guys can get a lot of experience, even if not the jobs. The placement may not be the same as that prevails in the Institutes that I have mentioned at the top. The placement job, though, was done well as there were enough opportunities for all. The placement package and profile may not be to everyone's liking, but BBA students can't expect a placement like MBA students. This was one of the main reasons why I didn't accept the offer that came my way. Many students, though, picked up the jobs they were awarded and are doing well in their lives. So, a BBA from Wadia will wrap up your career at highs even if you fail to get placements.

The boys' hostel tower was huge and my parents were like 'you will be staying at the hostels no matter what'. After the first semester though, I moved out as the facilities at the hostel were not up to the mark. There are common washrooms and you can imagine their conditions. They were cleaned daily, but still managing it that way was not possible for me, as on some days there will be no water, while on some days there will be a leakage. Hot water may not be available if it rains heavily as there are solar heaters installed and they barely work for two months when it rains cats and dogs in Pune.

Infrastructure may not be a high quality one, but the BBA building is the latest addition to the campus and this has been built as per their peers. One can compare them with the SCMS or MITSOM building as it has all the facilities that they have. The playground of Wadia is one of the best in Pune as there is enough space to play many sports. Cricket is played on most days, and the square and the pitch are well-maintained. The canteen is big and the food available at the canteen is also quite good. So, Infrastructure was good as BBA students didn't have to attend their classes in the old buildings of the campus.

The competition between the Colleges is so high that students who join societies have to spend a fair bit of time with them. I was a part of 'Natak Mandli' which is the drama society of the College and have performed in Symbiosis fests. The sense of competition will always prevail and seats in societies are filled upfront; so if you are good at something, you will have to put your best foot forward.
