Dr DY Patil College of Architecture B.Arch Review By Aishwarya Raje

I studied in the big banner DY Patil groups, in the DY Patil College of Architecture. I got a seat in this college quite easily on my 12th Std. Commerce percentile. The fees is reasonable as that of any Architecture college. Though the management of our college was a little poor, I did not get into any major issues. Things went well in the course of five years.

The 5 years course was bifurcated in 4 years studies and 1 year of internship. In the fourth year we had to do two internships, 6 months each. Based on the internships, we had to prepare a report to present in front of the jury. The jury was always strict and thus we were expected to be perfect. There’s no entrance exam, all you need is to have above average percentage in your junior college. I’ve gained sound knowledge in this architecture field so much so that I fell in love with the subjects. I had always wanted to become Architecture and so this college was one of the best ones I had known during my research. By doing this course I got a decent job opportunity after preparing an impressive portfolio.

I loved all my faculties for they were very cooperative and helpful. One of my faculties helped me get into a big firm for my internship. I got to learn a lot and was exposed to the actual projects in the architecture field. We had many young and dynamic professors who were best in their own subjects. They were capable of solving all my doubts and did not resist to give their extra time when in need.

Unfortunately, we did not have placements in our college. For those who had a family business joined them post college. Students like me had to struggle a little for a few months after passing out of the college. I prepared my portfolio and then applied for jobs.

There was no hostel facility for architecture students. But as we had two colleges in our neighborhood - R.A.I.T and S.I.E.S., both engineering, there were many students coming from outside Mumbai. Hence, there are several rented flats which one can opt by sharing rent with friends or other students. I think that’s one different thing to experience in one's life. There’s a variety of foods available in the vicinity of the college. In the morning, there are people on the footpaths who offer homemade breakfast. Nobody will ever go hungry at any hour of the day.

We had a modernised college infrastructure that suits well for an architecture college. Though there’s less space in the campus, we always had the neighboring ground and stadium of the engineering college of D.Y.Patil. I’ve witnessed a few IPL matches in the DY Patil stadium for free. We also had a good canteen facility. But we preferred going out at times for munching. I also liked spending time in our big library browsing through the hundreds of research books there.

As architecture is a very hectic stream, I’ve spent most of time in the college making drawings or preparing for the jury. We are seen as studious students as we are always found doing something or the other. The college campus was almost my second home. I had very little time to participate in any extracurricular activities thus I was not quite involved in the fests.
