Maitreyi College B.Com Review By Ananya Dixit

I filled my CUET preference list and Maitreyi was not my top 20 priority but since the competition for B.Com honors. Is pretty much high so getting a college in south campus is a great thing. I like being a part of Maitreyi as there is a lot to do. There are various societies’ fests that go on that make your college life interesting. Although it an all girls college so yeah there are a few disadvantages of it but if you are a part of societies then you can definitely have interaction with the opposite gender as well. It is a reputed college based in south campus also with beautiful gardens and a spacious campus so if you want to get a college in Delhi university you can go for Maitreyi. Then there is also the annual fest of Maitreyi Rhapsody where celebrities come and it is a very big event. All the festivals are celebrated at Maitreyi and we have a lot of fun. The college is pretty strict about the attendance.

The score to get into b.com honors in University of Delhi is high. One needs to score 710+ in order to get into B.Com Honors in south campus if u is from general category. There are internals taken periodically then there are continuous assessments as well. The exams are also of moderate difficulty level. The external examiner also comes to take our viva. All of them collectively constitute our total CGPA so you need to study well in order to score well. I personally wanted to pursue MBA further so I opted for B.Com Honors. According to new education policy there are exams of VAC, SEC, AEC and GE as well so u gets additional skills as well.

The faculty of Maitreyi is highly experienced and co-operative. Most of the teachers are PhD and very experienced with expertise in their fields. Some of the teacher’s do theoretical learning only but rest are very good and supportive of students but are strict about attendance and assignments. The teachers of additional subjects like VAC, GE and SEC are very experienced and they teach very enthusiastically with keen interest in their fields. I personally enjoy these classes a lot.

There are not very good placement and internship opportunity available at Maitreyi but there is a placement cell which provides few opportunities the placement ranges between 30-45 Percent with package ranging from 4 LPA -9.5 LPA. Firms who offer entry level jobs come for recruitment. Mostly people prefer going for higher studies but the fees is around 11k per annum so the return on investment is good.

I don't live in hostel but there is a girl’s hostel at Maitreyi but it has very few seats and reserved according to category and courses and they are given according to the needs of students. The hostel is big and spacious and the mess food is also average but there is time restriction present at hostel. The hostel gate closes till 5:30 pm and the college gate closes till 7 pm.

The infrastructure of Maitreyi is very good and very beautiful. It has a lot of gardens and it has been awarded for its beautiful gardens. The spring at Maitreyi is really beautiful. We often see peacocks and squirrels beautiful butterflies in our campus which is really pretty. The red iconic building of Delhi University looks very pretty in rain. Apart from it the library is also very spacious and has variety of books and the classrooms are also digital in the new building but the old building needs repair. The canteen is average and a bit pricey but the mother dairy on campus is a life saver in summers.

There are various societies at Maitreyi according to the interests of students. It includes the debating society, the marketing, finance fashion and everything of your interests and they are all very active societies and societies are a must join if you want to enjoy your college life. The crowd is good and humble you will find people of all types from South Delhi girls to those from villages as well but people are helpful. There are various events taking place on campus including the celebration of all festivals. The most enthusiastic fest is Rhapsody which is the annual fest of Maitreyi and it is celebrated with great crowd and celebrities are also invited apart from it the Diwali mela is also really great.
