St. Joseph's University BBA Review By Kamlesh Pandey

I attended Saint Joseph’s college for my undergraduate degree in business. The reason I chose St Joseph's College to pursue my degree is because of the prestige that it has. It actually has been open since the late 1800s, and has educated thousands of leaders of India. Also, many of my seniors in school went to this college, and they told that it is known for the placements that it gives. It is accredited by the NAAC and achieved a grade of A++ as of the year 2017. The college is an autonomous one, and the president is Fr. Vaz, and the principal is Fr. Lobo. If you want to join the BBA program, then you should have completed your PU from Karnataka or some equivalent of it. Applying for SJC Admission can be done through online now. You can go onto the college’s home page and create a login. The percentage required is high and the college releases 3-4 merit lists. The in-take is purely on merit and the college is meant only for the top students. The college is famous not just in domestic circuits but globally as well and interacting with global students was fun.

I graduated in the year 2016. There are many different departments housed in the college. These include courses in humanities, business, language, life science, and media sciences. As you can see, courses for all different interests are offered here, so you are sure to find a course that interests you. I joined this course because being an entrepreneur always excited me since a young age. So, BBA was a perfect fit for my undergraduate degree. The courses here really gave me a lot of exposure because we got to have lots of field visits and get to know the inner workings of various businesses. It definitely gave me a solid background when I went on to pursue my MBA, and eventually got a great job. The base was strong as St. Joseph left no stone unturned in getting our basics clear.

The faculty in this college is good. Most of the teachers have been teaching at the college for many years and have their PhDs. The average number of years that teachers have experience here is I would say around 14-15 years. There are a few teachers who are freshers, but they are very knowledgeable and got their degrees in prestigious universities as well. I liked my last two semesters’ teachers the most, because that is when we got to get into specifics of the course. The first couple years are just general subjects and about building a strong base. So the teachers for my last two semesters really made us get to know what opportunities we have and exposed us to different fields.

This college is known for its placements in amazing companies. Every year the placement process starts around July, and you have to first register for a skill training program that lasts for about 30 hours. In this you will be taught essential skills to help you throughout the placement process and your job. After this, you can download an application for placements and give it to the officer who is in charge of placements. After this, you can join for the placement interviews of companies of your choice that come to the college like Amazon or Microsoft. I went on to study further, but the average package that my fellow classmates received was around 4-5 lakhs per annum. The highest package during my year was Rs. 12 lakhs per annum and for BBA that was huge.

This college is a boys’ college, so there is one hostel for men. The total capacity of around 120 students. It has all types of facilities such as common rooms for playing games indoors like carom and table tennis. It also has a canteen, and there are courts for different sports near the hostel like volleyball, cricket, and football. You can get either a single bed room or a double bed room as that depends on you. The fees is different as per the rooms and the food provided at the hostel was also nutritious. Hostel review is solely based on my friend’s experience as I didn’t stay at the hostel.

The college has an A++ grade rank from NAAC, and you can guess that the infrastructure is top notch. The main facilities that are to be noted in the college are the fields for sports like basketball, badminton, cricket, and a library, and an auditorium. The library specifically is one of the oldest libraries in Karnataka, and it is a heaven for book lovers. You can also find all necessary textbooks relating to your subject topics here. Besides that there are all the basic facilities that a top college has.

I’m happy with the decision I made to attend this college for my BBA. Aside from academics, there’s a lot of extra-curricular to take part in as well. I personally was involved in the sports side more, specifically basketball. Other sports that you can be a part of here are cricket, table tennis, volleyball, football, throw ball, kabaddi, and swimming. There is something for everyone here.
