MIT World Peace University M.Tech Review By Hitesh Mali

Pune has become a soft target for students seeking PG programs. From my UG batch, a dozen students came to Pune and after trying my best I got admission to one of the best colleges in Pune. I had to skip a year to prepare for the entrance and will still consider myself lucky that I got admission at MIT WPU. The college is autonomous and is also located in one of the best areas of Pune so all the needs were easily fulfilled. MIT WPU fees were certainly too high and had to take an education loan to pay the same as my parents couldn’t afford that. Even though the college is autonomous the college has low caste reservation and it’s because of that I got admission here. The college has changed my perspective towards engineering as one can’t be a complete engineer through books but has to have some training under his/her belt. My previous college didn’t provide any such opportunity but MIT WPU University certainly did. The schedule though was quite hectic and also the attendance as compulsory as anything. The pattern at the college was so smooth that students can manage their time wisely for academics as well as other activities as well.

The portion was new and fresh and hardly relevant to what I studied in UG. I had to put in hard yards to make sure that I maintain proper credits because that defined the kind of placements that we will have. MIT WPU Pune labs were so huge that entire batch could enter together and there was no system that they will close on time. If students had to experiment at the labs they can take permissions and once they are done they can hand over the keys. The students had that much power. Once you have your freedom you can express yourself and that’s what helped me overcome what I missed during my UG years.

The language problem that I had in my previous college started giving me a taste of my own medicine. The faculty here speak so fast and the speech was so clear that I had to ask my fellow students what the professor said. Not a single Marathi sentence was used during the classes by the faculty. Even the jokes and all were shared in English. My command over language got better at MIT and that was certainly an add-on as working in an MNC once can miss out on a lot of opportunities, if he/she is not well-versed with the language.

Internships in 2 terms for a period of 4 months were mandatory. Not just in Pune but some students were provided internship opportunities in Mumbai and college beared the expenses. The fees were hence justified and that internship was enough for me to have an idea of the kind of role or work we will be assigned at work. Along with the internship, MIT WPU Placement cell provides proper training on how to conduct and appear before the visiting companies. Almost 30 companies took students of mechanical branch and capital goods which was my preferred sector, I got placement in that. The ratio was 90% as 9 out of 10 got placements and the placements were more than decent.

Inside the MIT campus, there are 2 girls' hostel buildings. The boy's hostel was located at a distance of 1 mile from the college. The college provided a transport facility for the hostellers and therefore the location was never an issue. MIT WPU Hostel Fees was 1 LPA and initially, I felt it’s too high but then looking at the Pune’s standard I will have to say that it’s a great deal because the rooms are good and we are free to choose our room partner. We were four friends and shifted accordingly. The hostel fees include daily room cleaning. The hostel had RO water coolers on each floor and also the inverter was in place and therefore electricity cut never hampered our studies. The food provided by the hostel was also top class but was a bit spicy for my taste buds. Staying in the hostel is rather a better option if you are studying at MIT WPU.

MIT WPU Campus is arguably the greatest. The facilities and the buildings are all world-class. The buildings are tall and wide and all the classrooms are also well furnished as each student has their separate table and chair. The campus atmosphere is quiet and is perfect for studies. The library hall is huge and is accessible till 10 pm. The campus has built a sports complex and has all the sporting facilities from indoor to outdoor sports. There is also a track field and basketball court. There is a Kirana shop at the campus along with an ATM center. There is one cafeteria and a canteen at the campus that serves variety of dishes.

Interacting with foreigners was the 1st thing I will remember about this University. In my life, I never ever thought that I will be studying in a University where students from abroad come and study. Not just it was new but was also a completely new experience for me. The extra-curricular activities in the college didn’t let us idle even for a minute. For the mechanical department, there was a robotic club and any inputs from the students were welcomed. The famous cultural club called INDRADHANU performed in the annual fest and their performances were one of the best live performances that I have witnessed in my life. There’s so much to learn as learning never ended at MIT World Peace University.
