Ahmedabad Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Prakash Mali

Ahmedabad Institute of Technology is not that old but is still among the colleges that require a good score at GUJCET to get the entry. The institute has an engineering and management department and has collaborated with various companies to conduct workshops and testing at the AIT campus. AIT Ahmedabad has given toppers at the Gujarat Technological University year after year and has also won awards at various state and national level competitions. One such was when the college team won the Smart India Hackathon in 2018. Likewise, the institute has won various other awards at the National level. The grooming at the institute was unbelievable as the student's views are always taken into consideration. The students are committed and also the faculty is also devoted. Ahmedabad Institute of Technology fees suddenly hiked during the 4th semester but in terms of learning and other factors, the institute is well ahead of Nirma University and L.J. Institute of Engineering. A foundation program was started in the college in 2017 and every semester we were required to attend some 20 classes for that. On a serious note that was just time-consuming as that didn’t help me a bit to cope up with the already vast syllabus. I learned nothing through this program and I hope they stop this soon.

The course structure is the same as what GTU has but the teaching pattern was as good as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The institute didn’t believe in giving students cramming knowledge. The industrial workshops and practicals were given equal weightage as that helped us in getting promising placements. We also covered half the syllabus of the 4th semester in the 3rd semester as from the 4th semester onwards the practicals and industrial workshops started taking their dues. Being an IT student it was primitive to learn as many software operations as we can and Wipro being the prime project consultant at the institute things became quite easy for us.

All the IT faculty had industrial and academic experience. They didn’t just teach us the syllabus but mentored us for career as well. The faculty created an environment where the first 2 weeks were a sort of orientation program so that they can know the students. The faculty dashed inside the four walls but were equally friendly and cooperative beyond it. Not just the core faculty but some professional bodies were hired by the institute who took guest lectures every now and then. All that helped us have a learning approach and being an IT student we have to be open to all the latest happenings in the world of technology.

Wipro being the principal sponsor, half the students were recruited by them and there were other IT companies as well who made sure that placement is no less than 75%. The presence of industries throughout the course and counseling by some of the top industry experts meant that one will have a job even if they have fared averagely. The average placement still needs some improvement as a package of 3-4LPA even for fresher’s was not motivating enough. The alumni of AIT have reached the top level at major IT firms and that was the only motivation that we took from the placement opportunities that were provided to us.

Even though there are half outsiders and the location is also absurd but still, there’s no hostel facility provided. The college does provide a bus facility that will drop you at your desired destination in the city but one has to arrange their accommodation on their own. This is one of the prime reasons why students tend to stay away from AIT. There are many nice hostels in Ahmedabad both for boys and girls and if one wishes to stay independently then also Ahmedabad is no short for any such facilities.

A 7-acre sprawling campus that has 2 buildings in all and rest open spaces that has a playground a garden and an open amphitheater was lovely. AIT College Ahmedabad is constructed in midst of agricultural land and all you will find is farms nearby college. The college has tight security but traveling along on the road outside the college is not that safe. The library is spacious but it was mostly used for playing chess by the students. Well, jokes apart the library is equipped and the classrooms and labs are all facilitated with modern facilities. There is a huge playground that has the capacity of accommodating the entire 2000 students of the college during events that were held in abundance at the institute. Wi-Fi again is not for students and we could only use the Wi-Fi facility at the computer lab. Can’t judge infrastructure just because Wi-Fi was not provided as overall the infrastructure was good.

Mostly Gujarati crowd and the students were mostly from Gujarat itself. This can be counted as an advantage or a drawback. There were events almost every week and a special note on the way Navratri was celebrated. It was earlier decided that Garba night will be celebrated on just the last day but on student’s demand it was extended for 3 days and the tradition has continued since then. Not just Navratri but all the other Hindu festivals like Janmashtmi, and Rakshabandhan were also celebrated at the campus. The Tech fest of our college saw students of all the colleges of Gujarat University attending because what our engineers did was beyond their imaginations. AIT definitely scores well in most of the areas and I would recommend this college for engineering.
