Pandit Deendayal Energy University M.Tech Review By Amit Mali

Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University is the best ever for petroleum engineering. 10 on 10 for the institute as the University place its students in none other than Reliance, ONGC, and IOC among others. No students were denied the placement opportunity and almost all the students were in the same bracket of placements. I kept my expectations high as my brother who passed out rated the institute quite high and I was more than overwhelmed by the facilities and the education system over here. PDPU University is arguably one of the best campuses in the country not just in terms of facilities but in terms on the environment as well. As an individual, I had a lot of chances to explore and learn things through practical's. As per your likings, you can join societies as they were more than I expected. Mostly the geeks who love researches are a part of this college and for them, the college is a boon as the college doesn’t just support their research work with technical issues but also provides financial aid to them. The college operates only 5 days a week and the rest 2 days are all yours as you can be a part of your club or play sports the entire day.

From what my brother studied I had those notes and books but all in vain as the syllabus was updated even though I joined the college just 2 years after him. Industry experts like Siemens, ONGC, and Reliance stalwarts come to explain some of the topics and I realized how important that was once I was done with the course. Reliance funds the college heavily and therefore the labs and workshops are out of this world. Steam engines to EDM machines we had them all at the campus. Siemens has also set up a center for excellence at the campus. Later I knew that there are 2 other colleges where Siemens have made the same set-up.

Not all are the same but some of them were quite extraordinary. There were some crannies with some of the professors. Not some but just a couple as they didn’t knew anything but still held on to their positions for years now. The real gems of the college were the faculty as they gave us the license to explore and ask anything and they were ready for help. Petroleum engineering requires a lot of mechanics and drawings and therefore we had another drawing club and classrooms to train the ones who were not good at it. It was the faculty that headed this club and helped many students.

We didn’t have many choices in terms of companies because only 5-6 options were there. Reliance was in the quest of expanding its retail chain and even though we did petroleum engineering to serve the petroleum unit, we were taken to Ahmadabad to get proper training for the retail business of theirs. I honestly didn’t mind as I had the placement I longed for. Even during a year-long training, we were paid more than what the other industries offer. Most of them though are hired by the industries that are associated with petrochemicals business. If those are the industries you wish to work in then PDPU is the one for you as you will be ready to take the job before the start of the final year of your M.Tech.

If I again give credit to the great Mukesh Amabaniji it would sound like a paid promotion but that man has built the kind of PDPU Hostel Rooms that were better than the homes of many students. Some of PDPU hostels were constructed recently and the facilities that no other hostels in the country can offer. One can debate on the high fees that they charge but I will keep that debate for some other day because as of now I am remembering those glory days and I wish I could spend some more time over there. The quality of the food is unquestionable but pure vegetarian mind you. Some students did brought non-veg food parcels to the campus and had to serve harsh punishments. So please don’t do that because the best vegetarian food on earth was served at PDPU’s mess.

The campus is big and is spread across 100 acres. As soon as you enter, you will have to cross to 2-3 garden lanes, and then comes the workshop just next to the building. All the departments of the college has their own building and all well maintained. The residential area is a little far and the sporting facilities are near the hostel buildings. The auditorium and the labs are world-class. All the classes at the college are air-conditioned and also the hostel rooms have air-conditioners. The campus will leave a lasting impression on one and all is what I feel.

The culture at the college is superior to many. I have interacted with many students of other colleges and universities and this is a straight answer that the kind of social life that one have at PDPU is just meant for PDPU students because no other college comes anywhere close. The college is highly active in holding fests and events. We had 10-12 events every year and besides that 6-7 surprise events were also part of every year’s curriculum.
