Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology B.Tech Review By Imran Patel

I passed out from DAIIT in 2009 and still remember every bit of the college life. JEE rank score is considered DAIICT admission here and not the state CET. The intake then was just 240 students from the core course of the college that is B.Tech (Information and Communication Technology). I compared our course with various others and Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology was far superior and sturdy from its peers. The teaching method and standard is also sturdy than its peers and I am doing a peer comparison because that is how I can prove how DAIICT was superior to others. It’s more than a decade and the college was among the top then and is still the top ranked college. DAIICT helped me a lot to grow as you will find the best coders in the industry from DAIICT. The field is not relevant to the ADAG (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group) that manages the college. Even if I compare the college to IIT, I would say it’s at par with them if not above them. DAIICT is the best self-financed college of the state for IT studies and the college has added various other courses related to the same field and the intake has also increased. I don’t know whether it had any adverse effect on the quality of the education that the college was used to provide or not but back then it was the best.

I think I have answered some part of it in the previous section. The studies are strict as attendance above 80% was definite. There was no compromise with that and it is still the same as one of my known is studying there and he has similar views. Education at DAIICT was more about empowering the students so that they something on their own rather than taking 9 to 5 job.

The college bigger heads always kept the faculties in check as surprise visit and student secret interaction to know if the faculty are doing any wrong doing. All these kept their actions at check and they did their job honestly. There were 10-15 faculty during our time and were focused on making students ready for the future. The world was going through turmoil then if you don’t know and empowering students is what was taught with sheer honesty.

The world has changed a lot in the last decade and the inflation has reached sky high. A package of 3 lakhs per annum then will sound like peanuts today but yes that was the average placement of the college then. TCS, Infosys who were a badly hit by recession were the major firms that still showed faith in some students of the college. The placement rate was 50% and above but not all were lucky to get the placements. The placement now is 100% and it is for real as I have interacted with some of the students who passed out recently and are all very happy with the placement things in place. Even then the college tried all in their capacity but the recession or the bubble burst made sure that they are no new jobs on offering.

The college has halls of residence inside the campus. I didn’t stay at the hostel but it wasn’t like the old days as I have stayed at DAIICT hostel on request and there were no restriction at the boys residence. Even the girls hostel was not that strict as they could roam around till 11pm. It would have changed now but in those days it was pretty cool. Nearly 1000 students used to say at the residential facility and each hall has TV rooms and a playing area. There was no compulsion for food as there was a cafeteria near the hostel and students can avail food from there or the college canteen was also opened till 10pm. Students can go out and eat and there was no restriction at all. There was just one restriction that outside food was not allowed at the campus other than the packed food items which were anyways rare in those days and late night Maggie was the only stuff procured from the shops outside the campus.

The lecture and laboratory complexes were different and personal laptops have to be carried at the complexes. The studies was done through PPT slides and one would feel as if they are technical students. Library building was named as the resource center and a 2 floor building that had library at the ground floor and study rooms at the other 2 floors with a seating capacity of 500 students was well-maintained. There’s no canteen but a proper food court with 7 restaurants serving different dishes. The tables were arranged in an open garden and that gave a proper restaurant like feeling inside the campus. There is also a small clinic inside the campus and a doctor is available 24*7.

Every student can enjoy their space at the campus and is one of the best examples of unity in diversity. All the festivals are celebrated inside the campus and also many cultural and art activities are organized at the campus. Democratic theme cultural programs are compulsorily organized be it in dance or skit form. One can enjoy complete freedom at the campus. The life at Dhirubhai Ambani University was amazing and filled with joy and laughter.
