GNA University B.Tech Review By Akash Yadav

Phagwara is a known town of Punjab but one had to go to nearby cities like Jalandhar or Ludhiana for engineering before GNA University came in. We are privileged to have a University of this kind in our city. GNA is good in terms of education and placements and both are improving gradually. The infrastructure work is still on as the University has laid a roadmap to increase the branches and streams. As of now, Engineering is its main branch and people from nearby villages and towns have started coming to the University as economic wise also it is cheaper than LPU which otherwise was the top choice of the students in this area. In Punjab, it’s nothing or everything. Either people over here will move abroad for studies or will not study at all. The time has started changing as urbanization in the villages is just a matter of time and people have started coming out of the old cliché. The parents have started sending their kids to Universities and want them to educate properly to have a better future. GNA has come to the fore of many and I hope it adds many feathers to its cap in time to come.

For us, engineering is like books and workshops. I never thought that it can be fun too as practical sessions were fun and getting us engaged in practical was the fore at GNA. The labs were always full as students were allowed to do their own experiments and can take the help of the teachers as they supported us throughout. One flaw or drawback for that matter is papers are set by the faculty and a fair idea of that is shared before the exams so that maximum students can pass. This is not fair as many students didn’t take the studies seriously because of that.

Well, the faculty has been roped in from the best of Universities. Many South Indian faculty members are teaching and though understanding their accent was tough but we got used to it as time passed. Their teaching methods and style was indifferent to others and we discussed that with the students of other universities and even they appreciated the same. May God saves them from evil eyes and they train and teach many more students here because most of the students who join the University need help desperately to overcome the cliché.

It’s 50-50 as of now because not many industries have joined hands with the University as of now. The University is quite new and just 3 batches have been completed so in time to come it will get better. I was a mechanical branch student and Ludhiana and Govindgarh companies like Avon and others made sure that they get their workforce from here. I will openly admit that the scenario was not conducive as the University needs to develop some workshops to make sure that by the time we are hired, we are ready. I had to work under engineers for a year before I was given some sort of responsibility. A salary of 30-40k in this region is good as the cost of living is less than in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore for that matter. I was quite happy with the placements but not many were lucky and some are still searching for jobs even after passing in 2019 from the University.

The University has both boys and girls hostel inside the campus. Since more and more students have started coming, a new hostel building is also on its way. Hostel rooms were shared by 2 students and they had separate beds, cupboards, and study tables. The room was small but from what I have learned the hostel rooms are more or less of the same size even in the best of Universities. Students staying in the hostel were satisfied with the food that was served to them. A timely breakfast, lunch, and dinner was planned and what else Punjabi people needs.

It’s clean or should I say spotless. The buildings are new and are looked after. The hygiene at the campus is visible as there are 10-12 dustbins in the campus and students are advised to not throw garbage in open. Not all listen but University has a workforce that looks after all that is being thrown at the campus and you will find the campus clean the other day. The labs are good and the library which I hardly used was awesome. I wonder if those many books were actually required because this is Punjab and books are never the best friend of people over here. The food served at the college canteen was fresh and I had my lunches over there almost daily. The infrastructure is awesome and once it’s fully built it will look even better.

Students were assigned tasks and because of the brilliant faculty one has to do that because some students were so mischievous that they plagiarized other student’s assignments and were caught. There was nothing like junior and senior at the college as raging and all are strictly banned and if anyone dominates all one need is a small complaint and the action from the management was underway. All in all a nice package in a small city like Phagwara.
