GNA University BBA Review By Sachin Singh

GNA University is a newly opened University and as a pass out from its first batch, I am a little skeptical. B.Com was the only course known in our town and when I learned about BBA and realizing what a BBA student can do, I decided to enroll for BBA. 12th marks are all that was required which soon will be mandatory to pass an entrance to get admission in this concourse. This means that the college is advancing and the students have started looking upon GNA seriously. Good signs for a University that has just started and in a town like Phagwara people from distant places come and study. This has actually turned the atmosphere of the whole village as almost every street of the town has students who are studying in GNA in Phagwara. The University is good and taking care of the students in all that it can. I am just trying to give what the University has made me because few years down the line I don’t think I would have been able to write a review as my schooling was pretty average. The University also made us learn the importance of higher studies and from what I saw 50% of the students did went for higher studies.

BBA is a 3-year course divided into 6 semesters. It was lovely to be a part of such a professional course as coming from a business family the course name enticed my parents more than me. My father even started to ask me to give my inputs in the business. On one of the practicals, I did my family business project, and was very much appreciated. All this made me confident and developed a sense of security in me that I will do something with my life. Now when I have started sharing the office with my father I realize the importance of the University and the difference it has created in me.

It’s not that students will only speak Punjabi at the University. The faculty were mostly imported from other parts of India and mostly from the South. They didn’t even know Hindi and therefore English automatically became the common language at the campus. The faculty was responsible for infusing confidence and self-belief in us. English classes were conducted as the University invited many guests and to ask them questions one has to know English. Not just the language but what all you can do if you can explain your ideas in English has a different effect is what we were taught and one can interact with University students and they will see most of them can conduct or present themselves at any international conference as well.

Quite poor and we were the first batch so I guess the University should have placed at least 30-40% students. Unfortunately, there were no placements and we were asked to enroll for MBA. However, whatever University taught us, I was happy with that because most of us were from safe backgrounds because GNA University Fee Structure is such that a common man can’t really afford the fees.

A hostel in Phagwara was the first thing because the colleges here had no hostels. Even the students who used to come here mostly went back after college hours. The concept of a hostel was again new for small towners like us. There are 2 high-rise structures inside the campus. One of which is a boys hostel and the other one is a girls hostel. The dining hall is at the ground floor and students are served 3 meals a day. The hostel has many facilities like a backup inverter, lift, and security guards monitoring the movement 24*7. Entry for outsiders is restricted and that is a good thing done by the University.

GNA University campus was still in the construction stage but whatever it was during our time, it was beautiful. The highway was nearby and therefore getting buses for any city of Punjab was quite easy. From inside the University has a huge gate just like it’s shown in Karan Johar film. The roads inside the campus were cemented and opposite to main building there was a huge parking area. The fountain at the front was the highlight of the campus. The college classrooms are modern and labs are stocked. The ground was not leveled and it’s still not done which I feel is the need of the hour. Sports play a huge role in shaping one’s personality and having a sports ground has to be mandatory at the University. I hope it’s done soon because space is not an issue for the University. A basketball court of international standard has been built and so are many indoor games facilities.

Life at GNA was a learning curve not just for me but for small towners like me. We hardly paid any heed to education but once a University of such a huge standard came to our town we all have started taking studies seriously. This is the impact that one campus has made on the entire town. I hope the University keeps shining and it educates more and more students so that the perception of people in North changes especially for a girl child.
