GNA University B.Tech Review By Deepak Shuklaa

Punjab is one state that has the maximum escape when it comes to education. Many new Universities have come up and even though, Ludhiana which is known as the Manchester of East has no such universities. Phagwara which is a town between Ludhiana and Jalandhar has come up with a world class university that have maximum students from both these cities. I joined GNA in 2020 and could only join the college in November after Diwali as due to Covid the classes, and all were online. November to March was the time when I used to travel daily to the University. The University has provided a bus facility for picking and dropping students to a point in Ludhiana, and that made traveling quite easy as 1 hour used to pass by without even knowing. The University started amid protocols, but we were made aware of the functionality of the University. Education is kept at the top while it’s not the only thing that we will learn at the campus. Ex-students of the college has started some societies and social clubs to be a part of and live the college life thoroughly.

9 to 4, no other activity as the classes would take place daily, and just 10 minutes break between the classes is all that we got. The classes had the latest gadgets to operate, and coming from a school that didn’t have such luxury was an exciting prospect for someone like me. After the classes, due to Covid, we had to leave either at 4.30 or 5.30 as that was the last bus that would leave for Ludhiana. I mostly stayed back to learn some other things as studies is not my only priority. Engineering students, in general, have done so well for them in different fields, and as a kid, I have grown up knowing all those stories.

I have never seen Malayali people in my life before I joined this University. Most of the faculty were from Kerala or other south Indian states, and that made sure that no Punjabi or Hindi is entertained in the class. Not just me but most of the students were uncomfortable at the start, but since we knew we didn’t have a choice, we all started speaking in English at least with the faculties and have grown in our experience of interacting in English. Education-wise they were one of the most highly qualified as most of them were Ph.D. degree holders, and their experience in teaching was at least a decade old.

From what we have learned, the University is known for its placements. I agree that the advertisements and the claims that the University has made must not be true. I got the opportunity to talk to some of our seniors and they said that things are getting better as it’s a newly established university but companies have now started looking at GNA as a serious institute. I hope that Covid will be all gone soon, and when our times come, the placement scenario reaches new highs.

There are already has 2 boys and 1 girls hostel inside the campus. One more hostel building is ready and once the Covid is gone, rather than traveling, I would be staying at the hostel. The hostel buildings are fantastic and facilities are aplenty. From Wi-Fi to power backup, the hostel buildings have everything. Rooms are given on twin to three sharing basis and will throw more light on this part, once I enroll at the hostel.

Punjab and greenery go hand in hand. Thus, above all the hi-tech buildings, superior technology that is installed, the University has stayed quite true to the state’s recognition and that is greenery. The buildings are superb, and fountain just in front of the main building is an exemplary to the quality of time and architects that have been involved in designing this University. The campus is clean and to make sure it stays that way, the college has installed dustbins at a distance of 30-40 meters everywhere in the college. The canteen is impressive as it was operational then and having a cola shot with friends at the canteen was refreshing. There’s no hospital near the campus so the University has kept the ambulance ready if an emergency arrives. The main part of engineering studies are the labs, and be mindful of those labs as you will find all the instruments and facilities at GNA's labs that you will have at the IITs.

Since, it was just 4 months at the college that I spent and that too amid the Covid challenges, it is hard to explain this part. From seniors who have been here before, the Covid has talked about the events that take place at the campus. Students are asked to present their projects during the tech fest that happens once every semester. The college invites some or the other personalities during such events and the university's annual function have seen Parmish Verma and Shirley Setia performing at the University.
