My Perception of Government Engineering College Wayanad, Mananthavady

Overall Rating
The institute is located in one of the best tourist spots in south India. Climate and weather are great. The cost of living is pretty low as well, if you are eligible for the government hostel, that's a benefit as well. Other private hostels are expensive. One of the drawbacks of the college is that it is tough to access. It is not connected by any railway station. The nearest railway station is 44 kilometers away which you have to travel to via mountain pin roads.
 

Academics Rating
The college provides Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in five courses. They are civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and mechanical engineering. Every department has an intake of 60 (ECE has 120). All courses except civil are NBA accredited.
 

Faculty Rating
All the teachers and faculties are recruited directly by Department of Technical Education of Government of Kerala. Most of the faculties are heavily qualified with masters from IITs and NITs and with Ph.Ds in various fields. Few faculties are temporarily admitted directly by the college. The way of teaching is pretty good.
 

Placement Rating
Yes, the college has an active Placement Cell. The Placement Cell has a separate building and faculties from various departments are in charge of it. They do conduct various placement cell classes and placement drives.
 

Hostel Rating
The college has one men’s hostel and two ladies’ hostels. The ladies hostel can accommodate almost all the students. Men’s hostel has limited access. Students are selected based on their family income and CGPA scores.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus has 3 main academic blocks and 3 more are under construction. The existing blocks are famously called old block and new block. An amenities block is located in front the main gate of the campus. Facilities and infrastructures are decent. ATMs, student vehicles, and cooperative store are available for students, which has some good collections as well.
 

Campus Rating
College has various clubs to boost the students. There is a robotics club, NSS, karma club, water club, and IEEE SB which is one of the best in Kerala. IEEE SB recently won an award for the best exemplary students’ branch. College has various programs like arts, sports, union day, etc. The crowd is decent; around 1500 students are studying here.

    The college is situated in Mananthavady, Wayanad. The location is full of greenery and mountains. There is a good atmosphere for studies and the college has a developing infrastructure. Even though this college is ranked last in government engineering colleges, this college provides good teaching and faculty support.     It is the only engineering college in Wayanad and is located in Mananthavdy near Talapuzha. It's not the best engineering college but comparing with other engineering colleges, it is not the worst, either. It has a good infrastructure but it has to be improved more.
