GEC is the best for Computer Engineering

GEC Gandhinagar has given 2 best years of my life, I might be little biased but all that I am going to tell is all true. The intake for Masters in Computer Engineering is just 18 and that makes this college the best in Gujarat. It is not something that has the best infrastructure in Gujarat. Still, Government Engineering College Gandhinagar has managed to place students at the best companies outside Gujarat and many are even settled abroad. Gujarat is one state where people find going abroad more interesting and that was the reason for me choosing this college as MNCs come here for placements and after a few years of experience they send the candidates to their offices in the United States. At the PG phase self-study is more important and this is why attendance is not as compulsory as you may find in some of the other colleges. The Computer Science masters course is without a doubt its best branch. All your future goals will be full filled once you find a way to get inside GEC. I am working at an MNC and also many of my friends from the same batch.

If one feels that he still needs spoon-feeding then I am sorry because GEC won’t provide any such facilities. The computer lab where most of our classes and studies happened as computers are what where we have our solace being a computer engineer. The lectures attending are not that important and you can do self-study and approach the faculty, friends, or seniors for help. To shape the career a career guidance program is organized by the college where related company's top employees come and guide us. Studies are not behind but the college will provide you an infrastructure where you can come and learn all the skills required in a master of a computer engineer.

The faculty are good and a total of 12 faculty for our course was enough I guess. All well-versed with the subjects and are available for the students whenever required. If you haven’t attended college for a month and have brought all the doubts altogether, you will still not find yourself in trouble. Keeping the narration in the third person but in reality, it’s me. I was the one who was irregular and still have no regrets because I was never behind as I used to bring all my queries altogether and get them solved by our faculty at the earliest.

TCS, Infosys are everywhere but not companies like Persistent, Cognizant, and Microsoft. You will find them at GEC as there are certain rules and regulations laid down by GEC Gandhinagar placement cell. Registering with the placement cell is mandatory. The skill development program of the college has to be attended mandatorily because the college wants its records to be 100%. The average annual package offered was in-between 8 to 10 lakhs and all 18 of us got a placement in this range. I don’t think even the college’s sister college Vishwakarma GEC has such placement opportunities.

An old-fashioned hostel for both boys and girls is inside the campus. The two-floor boy's hostel building had 60 rooms and the girls hostel too I guess had the same number of rooms because the hostel structure was the same. GEC Gandhinagar hostel had Wi-Fi services but not the mess and therefore the college canteen was one option or going out was the second option. The second option was the preferred option as the curfew time for the girl's hostel was 9 pm and for the boy's hostel, it was 10 pm.

The college is spread in acres and acres and one doesn’t have to use the college gym because one has to enough walk inside the campus that most of the students at the campus became fit automatically. The library house was nearly 500 meters away from the admin block. A complete bungalow-styled library had all the academic and non-academic books. The workshop building had as many 6 workshops as the building name itself was 6 workshops. There are separate buildings for all the departments and all the department buildings were of the same shape and size. The college campus has SBI ATM and 2 shops that also accept online payment. There’s enough greenery in and around the campus to keep the temperature cooler than the normal temperature of the city. There’s also a student start-up and innovation center at the college as the college has funded many ideas. The canteen was definitely not satisfactory but there are enough places in the areas adjacent to the college.

I think all my seriousness about studies was till by the time I did my UG. Once I entered GEC, I saw that students are living on their own and are more interested in doing self-study. I liked the idea and I also followed the same suit. The crowd at the campus is a little boring as you will find more introverts at GEC than at any other place. The college hosted all the events that an engineering college in general does. The events saw the introverts dancing like nobody’s watching. I relaxed at GEC before taking on the responsibility of running my house. GEC is amazing and life there was even amazing.
