BFIT Group of Institutions B.Sc Review By Mahak Gupta

I am currently a final year student in the BFIT Group of Institutions and it is overall a good college. The college provides great opportunities to students who want to follow their passion and dreams as there are many extracurricular clubs such as dance club, music club, and drama club. The infrastructure of the institute is average but the only problem there is the hostel which is very poorly managed and unhygienic. The faculties are also well-qualified and very supportive. It is one of the best institutes in Dehradun for courses like hotel management and mass communication. BFIT is also awarded for the best college in Dehradun from Google.

I took admission B.Sc Biotechnology as I always wanted to go in the medical field. I did not give any entrance exams as the admission was based on my percentage in 12th grade. Students with a lower percentage can also get admission in any course but if you have a good score then the college offers you a scholarship on the course fee. I had 82% in my 12th grade and the college gave a scholarship of 18%. The only drawback here is that the labs in the college are not well equipped. Biotechnology is mostly based on lab work but we don't get to practice enough in labs. The theoretical classes are helpful and I think they can help in getting a decent average job.

I am pursuing B.Sc. Biotechnology from BFIT and so far I would say that the faculty is good. In B.Sc. Biotech you will have four subjects, 3 main subjects, and one skill enhancement. In my first year, the faculties we have for our main subject which is biotechnology was not qualified enough and didn't even teach well. However, in the second year, all our teachers were changed and now they are well qualified and supportive as well. Although the faculties of other courses are also good. There are students from all over India and some of them face problems with language but all the faculties are very supportive and try to explain in a common and easy language so it becomes understandable for all students from any state of India.

At the time of the admission process, the students are given a choice whether they want to take placement from college or not. IF you take the placement from college then you have to pay an extra 8000 INR but then there is a 90% guarantee of a job after completion of the course. However, the college is not very great in terms of placement, especially for agriculture students. Placements are generally for IT students. So if you are looking for a good placement then BFIT would be a really bad choice for you. There is a very low chance of getting a placement in BFIT.

The hostel facility in BFIT is very poor. I have lived for 6 months in the college hostel and it was the worst period of my life. The food quality served in the mess is very bad and on some days we didn't have drinking water. There is a regular issue of electricity and water in the hostel. The hostels for girls and boys are separate and there are different blocks in each hostel. You will have the option to choose the number of your roommates. There are four sharing, three sharing, and two sharing rooms and you can also get a single room but the fees of the hostel will increase if you want to live with fewer students. The fees of the hotel range between 65000 to 90000 per year depending upon your choice of room. The security of the hostel is average but the wardens can be very rude and disrespectful sometimes. But it is not a compulsion to live in the campus hostel.

The infrastructure of the college is pretty average. The cafeteria is a good place to spend time. There are two different libraries in the college. There are five blocks for the classes and a separate block for all the laboratories but the labs are not well equipped and maintained. The building of the college is also not very attractive. The classrooms are average but they also require maintenance. The medical facility is available 24×7 on the campus. The mess is quite spacious but the food served is very low quality and unhygienic. The auditorium is the best part of the campus where most of the events are held. There is also a basketball court and a playing area for students. A parking area is also available for the students and faculties who come with their personal vehicles.

The overall campus life is great in the BFIT. There are many fests and activities for the students in which we can take part and show our talents. For the first year students, there is a fest organized known as "Rangreza" which is a 2-day fest. The first day is the cultural day and others the DJ- night or the Celebrity night. Other than that students from different states and religions celebrate their festivals and cultures on the campus, that way we get to celebrate every festival and culture. There are different clubs for the students and many competitions are also organized for the students and faculties to display their talents.
