New Law College, Pune is affiliated by Bhartiya Vidya Peeth Deemed University, it is Maharashtra Government funded university. It was recently ranked 6th in the survey of best law colleges. The college really stands on the ranking it has been given. For the admission purpose, there is an entrance exam conducted by BVP called as BVP CET. College management is one the best. We get everything what we want before hand and there is no need for a student to rush to make something happen like for ID cards or anything else. Management is smooth and hassle free.
The college offers 4 types of law programmes that is 5 year law degree- BA LLB/ BBA LLB and three year law degree that is LLB and the masters degree, LLM. I have joined the 5 year BBA LLB programme. Eligibility criteria for BVP CET is 12th with min 50%. BVP CET is of 200 marks and the admission is depend on the rank of an individual. Though, there are only 120 seats for BA/ BBA LLB programme and 60 seats for management quota. I joined this course because I thought that in near future this degree will be very helpful as I will have the knowledge of management with law that will come handy in the jobs I want to pursue and it also helps in the corporate law. Course subjects are very much satisfying. They are in sequence as they are supposed to be. I have friends in different law colleges but when I discuss my syllabus with them, their syllabus and subjects seem to be very disappointing as they do make the base of the student. But this is not the case in BVP. The subjects here are arranged in a manner that they form the basics of everything you study. This course will be very helpful in getting the job. As the corporate world needs a lawyer who has the knowledge of management as well and if not, you can also do MBA as you belong to the management field as well. All in all, it serves you well.
There are 10 semesters spanned in 5 years. And in every semester there are 5 subjects and each subject has one teacher. Rest, you can do the math. If talked about overall number of faculties, then there are approx. 200 faculty members in the college. All the teachers have 5 plus years experience with masters degree and PhD. Teachers are the best here. They are extremely supportive and friendly. They help us out in any way possible. And if the teaching is concerned because they are one of the best.
There is a placement cell of BVP which provides the placement for New law college as well. The placement cell is known to offer internships as well. Some the top companies visiting the college are TCS, Cadaler, Zensar, Amazon, etc. and many more and there are many big law firms which approach the college and you can even get PPO in those big firms. The highest salary package can vary from 16- 18LPA and the average salary package ranges from 6 to 8 LPA. But if you ask me about the placement percentage then it is only 70 %.
There is hostel facility in the university. And the girls hostel is separate from the boys hostel. The per year total hostel fees is around Rs. 1 Lakh but trust me if you are a girl and love your freedom and want to in a space where there is fun and independence this is the place! The environment of the hostel is very good and the wardens are very helpful. My hostel has 100 rooms and the number of students in each room differs accordingly but max it is 4 in one room. But the size of the room is very big it is basically like a hall (if you think of size). The food is average and is Indian. On Wednesday we get egg and on Sundays we get chicken and paneer. Well all over hostel facility I can really compromise with food. The security is really good. There is night guard and a night warden staying there.
BVP is a very big campus expanded in vast area. There are 2 to 3 colleges in one campus. Like in mine, as we enter, the first thing we encounter is canteen near entrance and then there is girls hostel on the left side. There is IMED College for BBA and MBA students. There are different library for every college and so is the auditorium. There is mooting hall and court room and cyber cell as well. There is playground where we can chill and also play various sports. BVP Cell for emergency is there to take care of medical emergencies.
The law college organises surana and surana moot court competition in which mostly NLU'S compete and also many other colleges. It also organises PN Bhagwati moot court competition. This type of competition enables the student to understand the competition and learn from the best and get experience of everything. But before this they also organise intra moot competition so that you will be prepared for the nationals. There is a fresher's party and 5 days fest called CAMOES in which there is a celebrity night, traditional night and DJ night. This time, the roadies participants came and there was a lot of fun. Overall the campus life is amazing, one gets to grow in such type of environment, physically, emotionally and mentally.
