KIET University M.Tech Review By Pradeep Godara

KIET Group of Institutions is one of the best colleges in UP for technical studies. It is now affiliated to AKTU and shown consistent results in getting students placed and also participate and perform at various national level competitions. Before I chose this college, many advised me that it’s just a normal college and to pursue M.Tech, I should search for other options. KIET group of institutions will not have people giving immediate reactions on oh you are from KIET. This though changes when you enter corporate sector because the kind of knowledge and exposure that we got in those 2 years is much higher than many private colleges of Delhi-NCR. One has to clear UPSEE to get the admissions as there is no other way, you can get admissions here. This is for those who think that taking admission in this college takes nothing. In terms of laboratories, KIET wins it hands down and the learning that happened in those labs was tremendous. No off for that as we can skip some classes but not the practicals. In engineering competition for each stream is quite high but that made us tough and also made us learn on how to survive at high profile jobs.

Academic wise the institute is A grade. It has always ranked among the top 20 private institute and I am sure the parameters that have been considered for that includes academic as well. Attendance in grad courses from what I have seen is not that high but for M. Tech a minimum of 65 is compulsory otherwise forget to write the exams. The strictness has to be there as AKTU is one of the toughest universities to crack and ever since Dr. Dinesh Sharma has taken over as education minister the first thing that he did was getting the technical education in line. The syllabus was previous quite outdated and our batch was among the newest batch of the latest syllabus that was introduced.

Faculty themselves taught us to study without faculty as they were more of mentors. This is one thing that I learned at KIET that you should never be dependent. Faculty overall did a great job in passing on their wisdom and some of them were newly appointed and the criteria set to get them in was quite high. So, the quality of teaching was also very high as getting adapted to new ways of learning was a slow process but the faculty made it look rather simple for us.

Placement is almost identical for CSE and IT students. Both branches students were made to sit together and ever since the mandatory test has been introduced it has in a way made life simpler for students. All the giant companies of the sector made their presence at the University and most of them had a list of the number of students they wanted. One thing that one should take a note is that 100% placement is a myth because it is never there at any University. Students completing their M.Tech in 2 years were not more than 60%. Only those who passed had the option of applying as students with back were not given second chance. So, make sure that you pass in 1st attempt or else forget the KIET Group of Institutions Placement opportunity.

There are 3 multistorey hostel buildings inside the campus. Two buildings are for boys and one for girls accommodation. The rooms are standard size with an accommodation of 2-3 students per room. The hostel fees including the mess fees was reasonable and the facilities that the hostel building had was superb. Lifts were there as the building was a 7-storey building. The dining hall was a Zero-fly zone as you won’t find a single fly or insect inside the dining hall. Each block had their own dining hall but the food served was the same. The only problem was that bathrooms were common. Other facilities that were there at the hostel included a room with recreational activities and a TV room on the 3rd floor of the building. RO drinking water 24x7 and round the clock security to ensure that students feel safe and secure at the hostel.

The KIET Group of Institutions has 4 colleges in the same campus. The buildings are named as AB I, AB II and likewise. The campus is spread across 18 acres and is one of the most vibrant campuses you will see. The institute is located at the outskirts of the city. The institute has all the facilities from ATM to medical store inside the campus. There are multiple canteens and you will get a wide range of cuisine to choose from. The college has sporting facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports lovers.

One of the best campuses of the city and since it has a lot of political connect, many politicians and celebrities are often a part of many events that the college hosts. I have spent 2 years at KIET and because I was in one of those courses where classes, practicals and after class study consumed most of my time, I could hardly enjoy all the events that the college hosted. KIET has a nice infrastructure and ambiance that will suit the most. Its location is challenging as after 6pm, one can’t even find an auto to travel.
