Don Bosco Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Eben Thomas

DBIT is the top college of Bangalore and for Computer Science definitely the best. The college just has 2 courses in M.Tech and Computer Science is one of the hottest. My personal views on the college is that there are some excellent points while there are some substandard things as well. Don Bosco Institute of Technology is located quite far from Bangalore central and the college bus becomes imperative. There is a pool placement procedure but still, good placements are guaranteed here. The college organizes many sporting and curricular activities all around the year. M.Tech students were also approached to be a part of the events and all the societies that are formed are open for all. The best part is that the college is quite liberal and there are not many rules and regulations. This is rare engineering colleges in Bangalore as you can have around 50 percent sort of attendance and you can still easily write your semester exams. On whole, If I sum it up point wise then I would say an average infrastructure, passionate teachers, good placements, and not so strict with rules. These are basic qualities that I looked for and have tried to address them.

The classes are not so hard and fast as we can ask for personal space even during the class and the professors will allow us that. The college labs are updated and well-maintained. More importantly, even after 20 years, the labs are still in nice stable condition as they didn’t go for renovations since then. DBIT was not my first choice but the number of things that I learned at the campus and moreover, it was like an evolved version of my B. E. The course was mostly an extended version of all the things that I already knew. Would give half a credit to my previous college as some students who were from other colleges hardly had any idea of some basic things.

The faculty members were passionate and they believed in giving students their own space. We could ask them doubts regularly at the staff room or the student lounge and they will immediately respond. Most importantly the faculty members were excellent at delivering subjects to us. Internal markings were also made easy by the faculty and even after performing averagely, one can be surprised with the kind of marks they get in internals.

Pool placement was the way and one needs an aggregate of 6+ GPA to be eligible to appear for the company’s test. Not all demanded the test score but TCS, Infosys, and HCL did. DBIT placement policy was also nice as even if you fail to crack one interview, it's not the end of the road for you. You can appear for as many as you want because the results of the placements were not upfront. One has to check with the placement cell on who made the cut and who has missed it. The average package offered was better than many. In regards to placement, the college has done well. Even though it’s located so far from the glam and the glitz of the IT sector the placements didn’t suffer a bit.

Don Bosco has a boys and girls hostel inside the campus and the rooms are quite spacious. There is also an option of choosing the rooms as per your preference of accommodation like single, double, triple, or staying with 4 students altogether. The beds though were outdated and so was the small cupboard which was not sufficient. Even the local residents were allowed to stay at the hostel but after taking a tour I decided not to. This decision backfired me as it was a 3-hour traveling on daily basis. The hostel mess was open for even the students who were day scholars. There was not just the South Indian but even the North Indian menu as well.

Average for sure because even though the campus is big there are a lot of open spaces and blank spaces in-between. The college library is also quite small and the books too are limited. The college academic building has a huge reading room and a special recreation room. There’s a medical facility at the campus with 2 ambulances. There are a total of 6 eateries on the campus. Our hottest point was coffee on the 90 café. Besides that, there was also a chat shop. I was never a fan of chaat items but my North Indian fellow classmates would jump to chaat corner in the evening. There was a RO water plant at the campus and was connected with water coolers located in all buildings at the campus. There is an AXIS bank branch at the campus and a 24*7 operational ATM. DBIT gives a lot of importance to physical education and sports like Soft Ball, Basketball have been the forte of DBIT. Every inter-college championship in these 2 sports was won by DBIT students. The infrastructure is not that great as the black spaces was not a sight one would like to see on a college campus.

Students were all charged up as we had events on almost all festivals. The societies at the college were highly active and making sure student engagement in the society is the top priority of the students heading the societies. Life at Don Bosco Institute of Technology Bangalore was great as learning with fun was the mojo at DBIT.
