MAKAUT B.Sc Review By Twameka Chattopadhyaya

My overall experience in MAKAUT in last two years has been quite good. I am currently pursuing B.Sc forensic science from MAKAUT. MAKAUT is the only government college in west Bengal which is providing bachelor's in forensic science at very low fees .This was one of the foremost reason for which I choose to study in MAKAUT. Apart from Forensic Science MAKAUT provides courses in many new emerging fields like robotics, artificial intelligence, cyber security etc. Moreover it being a government college provides courses at low fees. Other institutes providing these courses are either private or has higher fees rate which is not possible for everyone to pay. Therefore if someone is looking to study in these courses can definitely come to MAKAUT.

To study Forensic Science in MAKAUT one must qualify CET exam which is taken by the university. The eligibility criteria are to be from science background with either biology or mathematics or with both, acquiring minimum 60 % in higher secondary exam. The motive for enrolling in this program is to study forensics which deals with the crimes and laws related to these crimes also along with searching for evidences at crime scene and many new aspects and concepts related to crime. It is one of the emerging fields and therefore if someone excels in this field can get a good job after completing the course.

We have mainly five faculty members and three to four guests faculty which changes based on the course and semester. The faculties members are highly qualified three of them are doctorate and the other two have experiences in field working. They also are masters in their own courses, teaches quite well, helps students with the courses and also with their campus life if there is any problem. They teach using projectors make us do ppt and projects and also helps us with those.

We do have a placement cell at our institute and they helps students acquire jobs in the industry for like the department of food science and technology makes sores that their every students get placements and they do get it , they make them attend seminars conducted in the college itself and do internship works which helps them creating there resume . There are also other departments like food science which ensures job for their students. My department though cannot ensure job but makes us attend seminars and do internship in Kolkata which build our resume and later helps in acquiring jobs.

Yes - the facilities, infrastructure and recreational activities provided are quite good. Gym can be used by every student studying in the college without any extra fees.

There are total 8 buildings. Out of the 4 are used for academic purposes (biotech building, administrative building and academic building) and other are used for allotment purposes. There is music corner, street library, library building which provides huge variety of books in different fields, digital library with i5 computers which any student of the college can use. Print out is available inside the campus large playgrounds, staff quarters, three to four canteens and hostels also provided food and water (chilled during summers). There is a beautiful fountain inside the campus. The library building has air conditioning and other buildings too. You can work peacefully in library or digital library under ac in summers.

The campus life has been excellent overall. The people I found are quite helpful and playful the crowd has been encouraging the college has many clubs there are cultural societies the college arranges fests during the month October and November, they encourages indoor and outdoor games, arranges festivals like Raindrop and Nazrul Jayanti, Udaan, Agamani before Durga Puja, there are other programs which are department specific like - freshers, farewell, picnic etc. The college takes students for trekking also. Competitions in chess, football, and badminton are arranged. In cultural singing, dancing, recitation competitions are arranged. The college encourages seminars, internship programs etc. Concerts of different bands during fests are arranged etc.
