New Horizon College of Engineering M.Tech Review By Shobhit Jaiswal

After a poor run in my undergraduate course, I had to search for the options of the college that gives admission in M. Tech without GATE. There were quite a few, actually, and from all of those NHCE was the best. I would consider myself lucky as I studied in the NHCE CS department because the other departments were not as good as most Bangalore colleges. Coming from the North, a college in the South was much different and, importantly better. One has to be serious, but you can't walk away with a lesser attendance because it is not like North. You will have to take studies seriously to stand a chance for some good placements. We were in the middle of the pandemic in the last semester, but because we were already done with the placements, I was happy that I finally had one. If you are someone who enjoys partying and bunking classes, then I am afraid because forget NHCE most of the Bangalore engineering colleges are not meant for you. Passing percentage here is also less so I was hard with my studies as one has to be as no choice but to be hard to pass the exams in first attempt.

Education wise the college is simply good. Strict attendance and follow-up of what's been taught can be asked at any point in time. If you fail to answer, you will be put in a group that are termed weak students and will have to go through extra classes. Some students became a permanent member of that group, which made me question about how they can provide admissions without entrance if they are so strict. The college is not so popular and I also chose this college as there was no entrance score required and fees too was reasonable.

Quite decent as most of them were from Kerala, so to understand their accent took some time, but their teaching, without a doubt was the best. They were as serious as scientists and never left students in the midst of an ocean. They identified well before the exams that which students need extra attention and then as I have mentioned earlier the club of weak students was tried to be in the group of intelligent ones. The division was harsh as in the first 2 semesters, even I was a part of the weaker group. The faculty makes sure that students raise their bar and have minimum students in the weaker group.

A compulsory internship after the end of the first year will propel you to hone your skills. The teachers will become coaches then as they will look after all the progress that we make in the internship. The students who get negative in the internals were made to join a paid training program and that program has helped me and many others like me. The degree is never enough as CS engineers are always tested on their skills, and a skill development program by the college made sure that CS department has almost 100% placements. Of course, among those who pass in 1st attempt. The average package offered during the placements was 6-7 lakhs, and the students who passed all their exams on 1st attempt had the campus placements.

The hostels here were amazing, but the food was equally pathetic. The boys and girls hostels were inside the beautiful campus, surrounded by a sporting arena and a lawn at the backend. The rooms had attached washrooms and rooms were cleaned daily. Hostel had enough CCTV cameras and in my memory there's no mishap that ever happened at the hostel. Even though a long list of North Indian student's presence was there at the campus, the food had every menu on its list but North Indian. We got Chinese Food, Italian Food on some days but kept dying to have Chole. I honestly didn't liked the food at all, and North Indians, in general, may not like eat as the food was always cooked in Coconut Oil and even after having the food for 2 years, I couldn't develop that taste.

A beautiful campus built on almost 12 acres has excellent facilities for residential staff and students on its campus. The facilities at the campus include sporting facilities, medical facilities, and some really nice areas to enjoy the campus life with friends. The sports ground was illustrated one and we used to play football, cricket, and volleyball at the ground. The campus also has a clinic which is operational 24*7. Among other facilities that were there at NHCE campus were a state-of-the-art auditorium, classrooms with all modern facilities, a video conference room, and a beautiful library among others. There are 3 canteens at the campus and 2 of which were boys and girl's canteen only for the hostel students. The main canteen was a masterpiece as the roof was made of Umbrella, and whoever designed that, I wish I could meet that genius. The canteen offered refreshments and again some south Indian dishes but not much in North Indian delicacies.

Bangalore college events are different but by no means less. Celebrity's diaries are what we called as college often had celebrities at its campus for guest lectures or for cheering students during the sports day or annual meet. The farewell party couldn't be upheld due to Covid but because I have witnessed one, that was one of the grand events of the college.
