Jagannath International Management School, Vasant Kunj BJMC Review By Pragya Trivedi

Established in 2003, Jagannath International Management School is affiliated to GGSIPU, Delhi. It is the 2nd best college of IPU for BJMC. The assignments and curriculum which you will get here will give you great exposure and experience of the media industry. Teachers once may not pay attention towards theoretical learning but they will take your lab classes very seriously. The admission process, there is an IPU Common Entrance test or IPU CET is an university level exam for offering various UG and PG’s level courses to GGSIPU and other associated colleges. The college management is very friendly, during admission time they will cater to your problems but once you are their student they will be a bit reluctant regarding your problems.

I was a student of Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC). College is ranked 2nd by GGSIPU after VIPS in BJMC. You will have to qualify IPU CET with rank 130-1000+ if you are Delhi General and 164 - 300 for outside Delhi students. There is 85% reservation for Delhi student rest 15% seats are for Outside Delhi students. I secured 365 rank and I was an outside Delhi student. I got admission in the evening Shift. But you can change your shift by contacting your class coordinator, you will have to give your exams with the evening shift only.

There were 10-12 faculties in my course. There were two other courses BCA and BBA. There were in total more than 40 faculties. Teachers of my course were experienced. Some of them previously worked as Radio Jockey, News Presenter, Graphic designer, etc. Director of the college used to take classes of final year students. There were some teachers who used to teach very well in the starting of semester but after 2-3 weeks they just try to catch up with the syllabus. Like in designing the emphasis was given on QuarkXPress which is not in use much but not on Photoshop.

There is a placement cell there for all the three courses. There are placement coordinators assigned for individual courses to look after placements. Many good companies come for BBA and BCA like Amazon, Royal Bank of Scotland, Wipro Ltd., Aon Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Universal Data Solutions Pvt. Ltd., etc. But if I talk about BJMC there is no proper placement drive. You can find some companies coming for PR like Genesis, for Graphic designing and other fields but there are hardly any companies coming related to hard core journalism. The internships which college provides for BJMC are usually unpaid.

There is no hostel facility available because most of the students are from Delhi itself. There are various girls and boys PG's available near college but they are costly because Vasant Kunj is one the posh areas of Delhi. You can live in flats near Kishangarh, Munirka and Ber Sarai area. There are two metro lines, yellow and magenta but the stations are a little far from college.

You will be really disappointed by seeing the campus area. There are just two 3 storey buildings. The college can't construct more than 3 stories because IGI is nearby so they don't have permission beyond it. Most of the colleges of IPU have very small campuses. Classrooms have AC but my first year's classroom AC was not functional for the whole year. There is a canteen and you can find street food outside the campus area. You will find more students on Maggi point than class. There is a TV lab, Radio lab and computer lab. Time table is designed in such a manner that you will get proper theory and lab class exposure. I can say that labs are the heart and soul of the college, this is the factor which makes the college reputed. There is a small auditorium with a capacity of 200+ which is sometimes also used as parking space. The campus is small but they have maintained it well.

The crowd is great. Outside Delhi students may find difficulties in mixing up but you will gradually mix up. In my case I was able to make friends within a week. Campus life is great if you are an extrovert. There is a dance society, Drama Society, Music society, Rotaract Club and some societies are there which are not functional. I was part of a Drama Society named Pratibimb. You will find one or the other activity taking place in college daily. There is a fest called Zest which combines all the branches of JIMS and Then we have the Anugoonj fest of IPU. You will find BJMC students taking part in all the activities because the faculty is supportive and BJMC is more about gaining experience rather than sitting in classes. Your three years will pass in preparing for Zest and Anugoonj.
