LNCT Group of Colleges B.Tech Review By Swati Singh

LNCT is among India's top 50 engineering colleges and probably one of those colleges where girls are in numbers. There are some weak points as well, and I will begin with those. There's no fun studying here because one may find it hard to digest, but the break is just for a week between the semesters. Sporting activities are just for boys as girls will hardly be seen on grounds, and even the management will make you understand that sports are not meant for girls. The tech fest is also not regular as it happens once in 2-3 years. These were enough as the good things about LNCT will find more space in the students' minds who have studied from here. Engineering means four years of hard work. This is what we were told in the first week and didn't realize that the principal, sir, actually meant it. If you have good grades, you will land a job in Accenture or TCS. Financial wise the college is not that expensive as I explored many options, but LNCT not just better than them in academics but financially too.

There are a lot of ifs and buts, and luckily you will be made aware of those up fronts. If you take it seriously, it will work in your favor. However, if you ignore them by any chance, you will pay the price by not getting jobs or even expelling from the college. Attendance of 75% is needed means needed. If your attendance is less than even 70%, you should have a proper explanation, or you will be denied writing at least one of the papers. If it is less than 50% by chance, you will have no choice but to repeat the semester. Thus, it's even stricter than IITs and if you can cope with the challenges, join LNCT or stay away.

It seems they knew that only 20-30% students will have jobs, so they started making us prepare for the GATE from 3rd year itself. Thanks that they did as most of my classmates cleared GATE and studied at some of the country's best colleges. Faculty would finish the course well before the time, and we were given enough time to come and ask them if any topics need to be taught again. Even if 30% of students have issues with the same topics the faculty will take time out and take that lecture again. They did their part but were unhappy with the pay, and they always reminded us that.

There's no one behind in hard work at the college, and therefore, the placement cell too worked day in and day out to provide maximum placements. Students with good CGPA and previous good academic records have already booked their tickets to big IT companies. The others had to wait and wait and finally were told that sorry we couldn't find you jobs. The placements percentage was meager, and for a top-50 ranked college, it's more than low.

There are 8 hostel buildings. 5 boys and 3 girl’s hostels. The hostels were further divided in UG and PG, and nearly 600 girls stayed at the campus. Along with students, there was also a staff hostel or staff residential complex inside the campus. There was a huge garden outside the hostel, and the mess was on the ground floor. The rooms had quite a few options like AC and Non-ac rooms, and because I didn't stayed at the hostel, my opinion on the food would be just on what I heard from others. There was a set menu in breakfast, and even in lunch, there was hardly any choice. Evenings though were colorful as every day of the week the students enjoyed the variety.

A campus comprising of over 50 acres of land was as beautiful as anything. The entire campus was Wi-Fi, and from classrooms to library, everything has turned digital in 2015. Luckily it was just my 2nd year, and got used to technology early as the campus has made some nice use of it. The college I-Card has a chip, and even if we lose it, it can be located. It was also from the security point of view as well. Physicians are available at the campus, and medicare was thus taken complete care of. The college canteen was huge but was made like IRCTC styled not a college type. From snacks to full meals, the canteen had every item on the menu. The sports ground were behind the hostels, and we were mere spectators as girls were hardly allowed. The boys will keep occupied all the courts be it football ground, volleyball court or the lawn tennis court.

It wasn't the best of campus life but it wasn't the worst as well. Discipline definitely took its toll, but after a point we all got used to it. The tech fest was not organized every year, but the annual fest was celebrated with full enthusiasm. CM Shivraj Singh was a guest of honors in 2016, and every year some or the other politicians and sportspeople are invited to graze the event.
