Acharya Bangalore B-School MBA Review By Vikas Kumar

I joined ABBS as the admission criteria was quite easy. I initially joined their PGDM Global program then after a month shifted to MBA as I came to know that their PGDM program is not equivalent to MBA. ABBS is a deemed university and their PGDM degree hardly hold any significance. I did specialization in banking but trust me if you are looking for placements go for Marketing as that stream had the best placements. Academics were average but ABBS did conducted many international conferences which were quite helpful. Having interacted with many corporate people that helped to get some experience but otherwise the college has not much to offer. The fee is too high so if you compare that with ROI, you will see it’s a loss-making deal. Overall, if I have to score it on the scale of 10, I will give it 6.

One thing that all should know is that management studies can be learned only through exposure. Books will hardly help. This is where ABBS have done well because the books weren’t that hefty and we were taken out for projects and seminars and all were conducted almost every week. In terms of exposure the institute has done exceptionally well but otherwise in terms of assignments and teaching the college lacked. We thought we will have 8 hours of classes daily and will learn a lot of new things in the classes. None of such things happened and most of the students would speak in local language and there was hardly any knowledge sharing among the students.

Faculty numbers were less to be honest. Some of them were brilliant and provided us with a great insight about the subjects. The course wasn’t that vast and therefore they kept the things clear as giving us insight about their professional career. Almost all the professors were working in some corporate before they turned professors. Thus, along with teaching they also had work experience in corporate. Faculties shared a nice bond with students and were always kind to me at least. One can joke with them and even pass comments on their clothes and they would laugh it out. Never seen such cool professors and yes forgot to mention that they were generous in awarding numbers for practicals.

Don’t ever look at the brochure or the promises that will be made during the orientation program. Only the start-ups and some big companies made it who would offer average jobs. BBA and MBA students were asked to appear before the same companies. I think the total strength of MBA was 300 and 40-50 would have been placed. For those who came from a business family were rather taught that instead of doing a paltry job try to contribute in your business. Thus, I was left out from appearing for any interview and had to see my friends coming back from the interview with heads down. Poor would also be an understatement because even after paying such a heavy fees, we were not even provided opportunity to get placed in industries and show all that we have got.

It was a hotel building from outside as it was damn beautiful. I have just been to reception area and it was so amazing. There was a separate dining area and buffet was served daily. Hostel only served the vegetarian food as it was run by Jain organization. The boys’ hostel had the capacity of accommodating nearly 200 students including UG and PG. Both UG and PG students stayed together in the hostel and the hostel warden made sure that no ragging is allowed inside. Thus, not just beautiful but the hostel was even safe for outsiders.

The location is literally outskirts of Bangalore city. Luckily the bus stand was just outside the college and that helped students reach any destination. This was probably the only drawback as everything else was perfect. The campus size was small but the buildings are beautiful. All the classes had ACs and modern styled benches. There were two auditoriums out of which one was used just for the events. It had the best sound systems, and lightings. There was an external field which was green and diving and roaming around was easy on that field. UG students were seen playing football and cricket over there. PG students hardly had time, so we were more engaged in Volleyball. There was a big café inside the campus which served thalis and many dishes from across the state. Infrastructure was beautiful it was just the location that was in the outer.

Crowd was mostly local but all were from educated families. Even the outsiders felt home inside the campus as security wise Acharya Group do take care of its students. On the whole ABBS is a regular college that can award you certificate but not the placement or correct formula to excel in life.
