L.D. College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Bhumi Jani

I studied at LDCE from 2012 to 2016. LDCE is as good as any private institute in Gujarat such as Nirma University. Thus, if you have got admissions here means big congratulations to you and your family as it’s a remarkable achievement. It is one of the oldest institutes of Gujarat as it was established way back in 1948. The best part was that college has many nationalized groups working within such as NSS and NCC. You just have to give their qualifying exam and you can be a part of it. Even girls were allowed and there was no discrimination but the girls ratio is quite less which is generally is in engineering colleges. All in all, LCDE just doesn’t have the best campus but is also the best in terms of education as well.

LD doesn’t have much strict norms when it comes to attendance. Some benefit of being affiliated with government university. However, being present during pre-university exams is must. One should appear for that as it will give you the best idea on which subjects you need to brush up. There was always a 15 days gap between the pre-university exams and the finals and in-between you can ask professors for giving you classes on subjects you think you need help. I have seen students of many colleges and they all have to say one thing in common that self-study is the only way out in engineering colleges of Gujarat.

Faculty was decent as they would mostly by their time at the staffrooms. If the students are less they would take the lectures with more enthusiasm. They were happy with students bunking the classes and mostly it were the guys who did that because girls ratio even in ECE was quite less. Professors had no business in how much have we scored but were biased in giving practical marks. Since they were little biased towards me, I don’t think I should be complaining. All you need to do is somehow get in their good books and rest all things will take care of it.

Placement cell reached out to students and all the students who passed without ATKT were given the first preference. Fair enough as one should be rewarded for maintaining numbers throughout. Placements were decent again as half the students got placed. Average placement package was around Rs. 4 lakhs and ECE department’s highest package was grabbed by a student worth Rs. 11 lakhs with tech giant Wipro. Along with Wipro, Mindtree, TCS, and Infosys remained the front runner.

There were 5 boys’ hostel buildings and 1 girl’s hostel building inside the campus. All the buildings were white colored 50 years old buildings that have hardly been maintained. After staying in the hostel for a year, I decided to put up at some other place. The food served was below par and I lost nearly 4-5 kgs in that one year span. Girl’s hostel was G block which was quite strict but boys hostel hardly had any restrictions and we could see them partying late in the night.

The college is located in university road and is spread across 36 acres. Buildings are old for obvious reasons as the college itself is over 70 years old. Starting with library first, it was huge. It had all the books that one can ask for. I am a huge fan of Chetan Bhagat and all his novels would be available in the library in the first week itself. Just beside the library there was computer room and that too was quite big. Nearly 200 students can take a seat at one point in time. The only problem about the campus was that the campus didn’t have Wi-Fi. Moving on to the canteen, it was decent. It had Gujarati Thali, Punjabi Thali and some more dishes. There were two canteens in the campus out of which one was for student and one was for staff. The hostels were also inside the campus but were not in a condition that one can leave peacefully there. The campus had all the facilities required but some good and some quite poor.

Not just technical but many non-tech events too were organized and that made life even at the campus. All the students are presented with equal opportunities. The annual fest of the college was amazing as we had crowds from various other colleges of Gujarat. Other than annual functions, the college also celebrated Yoga Day and Navratri among many other events. The college had huge sports grounds and almost all the sports were available to play. Basketball and Badminton courts were always full with girls and I personally had a lot of fun during those four years of my life at LDCE. I have mentioned all the good and bad things about the college and my views are absolutely honest.
